A large group of us went to the idle hour last night at 8pm to watch the Eurovision. On 4 ocassions the owner was re-winding the live show to suit himself and his friends at the bar. We asked him and the staff to stop doing this but he continued. Some of the group walked out half way through as... More

This bar sitting right on the docks on the edge of the old 'jewtown' is an absolute gem. It still retains the authenticity of a local bar yet is welcoming to tourists or any other visitors. Look out the door and you see you are located right in the heart of the dock area and yet you are only a... More

Was in here recently and what a spot! Lots of 60s 70s music to suit the clientele. You better be able to sing because everyone joins in and the whole bar starts rocking to the beat and people even stand on the seats dancing! Bar staff are great. Atmosphere is 11/10! You certainly won't be Idle in there!!

I have friends who have frequented this bar for years on and off and have regaled me with stories of crazy nights. If you stay seated in this bar you would have to be tone deaf, they play some great tunes and a mix for everyone. It is the kind of place where you go "Oh No" but then once... More

Have walked past this pub so many times on my way to or from work and it always draws me in. Whether its quiet and the big screen has sport on or its a rocking Saturday night I always wanted to visit but hadn't until the other day. Went in after a tough day at work and the place was... More

We were getting wedding photos taken across the road at the docks and the barman came over to us and offered us a complimentary drink for the whole bridal party. Lovely gestures like these don't go unnoticed.

Was in here for the first time last Saturday night and will definitely be back! Brilliant music and fantastic atmosphere. Would not have guessed from the outside. A little off the beaten track which makes it a little gem.

This pub really is a hidden treasure. The atmosphere is always wonderful, be it packed to the gills or half empty. Great fun to be had on major sporting occasions when crammed in with fellow sports fans. They also do a deal with The Fish Wife fish and chip shop on big sports days - a pint and fish/chicken/veggie supper... More

With the advent of the super pub , the rock pub, the dance pub The Idle Hour still retains an authentic feel in the centre of Cork city. It is unpretentious and delivers what most people want these days in pubs which is good music (at a respectable volume) all live sports and a friendly staff and clientele. When you... More
