Now in its 10th successful year of business Ennis Walking Tours is an exciting tourism initiative which runs lively and entertaining guided walking tours through the winding streets of the medieval town of Ennis in Co Clare.Jane - the experienced local guide - leads you through the atmospheric winding streets and "bow-ways" of the town, while revealing the intriguing characters and stories that shaped its history. Hear about the mythology and legends of the town - from banshees to Biddy Early (the magical lady of Clare who was tried for witchcraft in Ennis). Hear tales of murders and hangings, famine and poverty, rebellions and riots and discover how the most powerful men from Irelands past - amongst them Daniel O'Connell, Eamon de Valera and Charles Stewart Parnell were closely linked to the town. There is an option to finish the tour in the comfortable setting of a local pub and learn more about Clare's unique contribution to the traditional Irish music scene. In addition to this tour Jane is also running summer evening Haunted History Tours - come join us for fun and chills on a spine tingling journey as we unlock the secrets of medieval Ennis!

My wife and I were spending some time in the town of Ennis. We went in the County Clare Museum where one of the nice ladies working in the Irish tourist section told us about this walking tour. We met outside of the museum in the Temple Gate Hotel Courtyard the next morning at 11 AM where a group of... More

Every morning outside Temple Gate hotel at 11am the tour takes you through the market town in a most educating and interesting visit highlighting the centuries of history attached to buildings and monuments in Ennis. Well worth €8. The guide is pleasant businesslike and knows her stuff! A 'must do' for visitors and locals alike

Good tour with local guide covering the history of the city as well as an overview of the city layout and architecture. Especially interesting description of the part Ennis played in struggle for Irish independence.

Jane took us on an informative walk around Ennis. She gave us a enough historical information along with a spattering of humorous stories to keep our interest. We enjoyed seeing the quaint town that obviously has great pride in it's appearance. There are beautiful hanging flower baskets everywhere. We also saw modern sculpture placed around the town that contrasted with... More

Great walking tour, lots of interesting info. Fun to walk around an Irish town for a bit. Not strenuous, just a nice pace in a picturesque Irish town with great history. Worth the time and the money.

Jane O'Brien, tour guide, provided many wonderful stories; tremendous history of Ennis and surroundings; and a personal touch to our visit to Ennis. She has lived in the area her entire life, and was very well informed and offered so many insights we would have otherwise missed had we not taken the tour. The 75 minutes together passed all too... A lovely hour and a half spent with Jane makes you wish Ennis was bigger so the tour could be longer. She's' knowlegeable and has that enthusiastic friendliness that you really need for this type of job. I was delighted to learn about the O'Brien kings, the legendary Biddy Earley and the details of the history of the town. A... More

Nice little village, don't miss the free museum and tourist office by the temple gate. This area is O'Brien country and the museum has all of that history!
