Now in its 10th successful year of business Ennis Walking Tours is an exciting tourism initiative which runs lively and entertaining guided walking tours through the winding streets of the medieval town of Ennis in Co Clare.Jane - the experienced local guide - leads you through the atmospheric winding streets and "bow-ways" of the town, while revealing the intriguing characters and stories that shaped its history. Hear about the mythology and legends of the town - from banshees to Biddy Early (the magical lady of Clare who was tried for witchcraft in Ennis). Hear tales of murders and hangings, famine and poverty, rebellions and riots and discover how the most powerful men from Irelands past - amongst them Daniel O'Connell, Eamon de Valera and Charles Stewart Parnell were closely linked to the town. There is an option to finish the tour in the comfortable setting of a local pub and learn more about Clare's unique contribution to the traditional Irish music scene. In addition to this tour Jane is also running summer evening Haunted History Tours - come join us for fun and chills on a spine tingling journey as we unlock the secrets of medieval Ennis!

Nice little village, don't miss the free museum and tourist office by the temple gate. This area is O'Brien country and the museum has all of that history!

The tour lasted over an hour and brought the group through the town center, stopping at various points to discuss historical events and amusing stories of times past. Jane brought the history of Ennis to life! There was a very relaxed atmosphere and it felt like a meander with a friend who happened to know everything about the town! Jane... More

Jane brings the history of Ennis alive with stories delivered in the locations where they happened. As with most outdoor activities in Ireland bring rain gear and dress in layers along with good walking shoes. For visitors the tour gives local insight into the old Ennis for individuals, families and groups.

My wife and I really enjoyed our walking tour with Jane O'Brien of Ennis Walking Tour. This is a great way to get a feel for Ennis, to learn about its history, the important people in its past and hear some wonderful stories. Jane's knowledge of the town and its past shows through. I would recommend taking this tour the... More

This was a pleasant way to spend one and a half hours, learn a bit of history and ask your questions. There was just four of us tourists so a very personal experience. Recommended.

Stay here downtown at he Old Ground Hotel, then get up early and walk through town on the narrow streets. Enjoy the city as it begins to wake up.

Jane does a fantastic job providing the history of Ennis while walking and showing the highlights. Not sure we would have walked around ourselves if we did not take the 1 hour 15 minute tour. Highly recommend.

Jane O'Brien does an excellent job of making Irish history accessible and interesting in the course of a walk through a remarkable heritage town. She successfully interweaves the medieval and the modern facets of the life of this bustling town. She explains how central this town has been to turning points of Irish history - from the era of the... More
