This distillery, the most westerly in the British Isles (and without a doubt the smallest - Edradour is huge in comparison!), is localted in truly the middle of nowhere! Driving out for our visit we traversed some of the most desolate terrain I'd ever seen. (I used to think the Moine area of northern Scotland was barren, but this was... More

Marco showed us around the full setup, explained the whole process in great detail and gave us a taster afterwards. Great whisky, great visit.

If you are genuinely interested in "farmhouse distilling" this is your place to go! If you are looking for a flashy visitor centre with all the usual Scottish fake whisky romantic, stay away !

Turn left when you see the big red bowser by the road next to the river (not right as we did) and park by the giant Lewis chess figures. The distillery is in the low, rather anonymous, buildings just upstream from the bridge. We were given a very well informed talk about how whisky is made, shown the equipment, and... More

If you're expecting something bling, something very touristy you'll be disappointed. If you can manage your expectations and see it for it is you will love this place. This is a business with the added benefit of being able to taste the wares. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. A quick tour of the equipment led to a tasting. And the... More

There was such a friendly welcome despite thundering rain. We were given lots of information and our guide answered questions very knowledgeably. It is a very small operation (at the moment)so there is not too much to see and it does not take long - for us the early stage of the operation was part of the appeal.

You could easily drive past this place without noticing it but it is well worth stopping. There is clearly a lot if passion and you can see the distillation process on a small scale in one room. A very different experience from the large commercial distilleries and very tasty. The scenery on the drive out and a short detour to... More

This place was mentioned to me by a local man who was speaking to me as we drove up in a motor home through the Outer Hebrides. At first I thought it was a fish canning place and it was only later in the afternoon - quite a bit after 4 pm - that we 'discovered' it was the distillery.... More

It is hard to review this distillery. Essentially it reflects the passion and vision of one man's dream to establish a distillery in a redundant fish factory on a limited budget in order to produce the best whisky he can. Sensibly they prioritize the production process over the marketing process. I fear this balance and the financial restrictions to marketing... More

Very "new" distillery but very interesting. Wonderful samples and hostess very informative. Beautiful setting with hills all around and the Red River running down from the hills
