Even though the rail was lashing down we really enjoyed this journey. Cannot recommend it enough. more
Great scenary for the duration of the line from Inverness. Would recommend more
I travelled this line as part of an overland journey to the Isle of Harris (which also involved a bus across Skye to Uig to take the ferry from there). This section of the trip was the absolute highlight, with stunning views in all directions. OK, it's not fast - but who wants to hurry through scenery like this ?... more
This is not so much a review of The Kyle of Localsh, more a review of the train trip we took to get there. This train trip was featured in Michael Palin's Great Train Journeys, and I couldn't agree more. The Kyle line starts at Inverness and Terminates at Kyle of lochalsh near Skye, the line is beautiful and i recommend it for a day trip but i also try and warn you do not go in the winter, the trains used is a class 158 most being refurbished as i always go for a table in trains try not... more
Even in March 2006 the views from the train were fantastic, mountains, rivers, lakes, around every bend of the railway was something beautiful to see. Take the train from Inverness for about £18 each. Known to be one of the most scenic railway journeys in the whole of the British Isles. Mentioned on one of Michael Palin's travel programmes. more
