It was my and my friend's first trip to Scotland and we weren't really sure what to expect. The weather was pretty intense (but super fun)! We learned a lot, had a wonderful time, and will most likely try to come back next year.

3 of my friends and I spent the day on the amazing School House Ridge and up to Sgorr Dhearg. For the majority of us this was the first time in crampons and the first time using an ice axe - our guide Tom was superb throughout. Tom was an absolute professional whose skill and experience allowed us to all... More

Great day out getting a refresher on winter rope work. Ken showed me a fantastic route of Castle Ridge which gave us a true alpine-style day out with a mix of climbing styles. To top it all off, we stumbled upon some very tame stags on the way down. Superb!

I had very little winter mountaineering experience other than following other people in the snow and trekking on trails. I wanted to increase my skills and confidence and Ken was recommended. We had some correspondence during which I felt he really took note of my needs. Luckily for me I was able to be flexible on dates and Ken found... More

Great weekend with WCMG. Not having led a winter route for 2 years I wanted a quick refresher to get my head back into gear. Had a great 2 days with Mattt climbing original route and scabbard chimney in SCNL. Great to be back on the routes 10 years after first having led them. Matt was excellent, great local knowledge... While studying an MSc. in the UK it wasn't long until I decided to book a little adventure trip. I needed to polish my winter skills and to practice self-arrest techniques. Actually this trip started with a few e-mails, and phone calls some weeks before. This gave both Ken and Hannah (the guides) a sense of my expectations which at... More

Hi Marco, thanks so much for writing this review! You've remembered it all so clearly, I'd forgotten about the descent from the CMD with you only in your thermals! It was a great 2 days, thanks you. Hannah More

We spent a day with Ken from West Coast Mountain Guides in December 2015 learning lead winter climbing skills. Ken was a fantastic guide; he really understood what we wanted from the day and gave us it, which was not straightforward as the group had differing levels of experience and conditions meant that our options were limited. Ken is really... More

Just finished this course and absolutely loved it. Despite the weather being unfavorable (too much snow!), the guide (Matt), did a great job of finding varied and challenging walks and climbs for us to complete. It would have been great to take in a few more Munro's, but given the conditions, I'm really pleased with what we achieved. There were... More

A lot of people associate the west coast of Scotland with lots of low clouds and misty rain or sunshine and midges. Even the natives agree with one of their favourite sayings, “ if you can see the hills it’s going to rain and if can’t see the hills it’s because it is raining”. So it must be true, even... More

I booked a weeks ice-climbing course with West Coast Mountain Guides in early February this year. My assigned guide Mat Stygall is a great instructor. He gave a lot of great advice and tips on 'walking in' technique and ice climbing and climbing in general. This was my first ever ice-climbing experience and I feel i got far more out... More
