The last famous battle on British soil in 1746. The very large exhibition provides a very full account of the Jacobite uprising and the rise and fall of 'Bonnie Prince Charlie', but interestingly it compares the strategy of the two sides. A 360 degree, short slide show captures the realistic feeling of actually participating. The building is externally like a... more

The new visitor's center contains lots of information that explains the battle and the background in a detailed but well-presented way. It also gives you good insight into why this was important in Scotland's overall history. more

I was a solo traveller, so I hired a tour guide to drive me to Culloden & nearby Clava Cairns (pre-historic burial site). Once you pay for your ticket (and I bought the guidebook as a memento), the interactive exhibit is quite interesting. I learned a lot of things that I only knew bits and pieces of before. But the... more

The visitor centre at Culloden is really excellent once you run the gauntlet of the National Trust for Scotland employees trying to flog memberships and other items. The entry fee at £10 for adults is quite expensive but well worth it. The centre guides visitors through the lead up to the battle and the historical context both from the English... more

Have a wander around the new museum (lots of interactive exhibits, and moving film in the round) and do pick up the PDA device which has built in GPS to guide you through the battlefield site itself. Allow about 2 hours in total....and don’t forget your wellie boots and other waterproof (why does it always rain on outdoor tours in... more

This was an amazing place! I live in the United States and have previously visited Gettysburg, PA - the site of a major battle during the Civil War. That place is embarassing compared how tourist friendly the Culloden Battlefield is. There are interactive diplays on the inside,a 360 degree theater that shows the battle, when you go outside to tour... more

I stayed in Inverness for a couple of days, and before I went to Inverness I wasn't too sure if I was going to go and see the battlefield. But I'm really glad I went, in fact I think the reason why I wasn't going to go was out of ignorance of what Culloden was about. The visitor center details... more

Their new visitor center is the best I have ever seen anywhere! They do an amazing job informing you about the history with different technologies without it being too confusing. The battlefield hits you emotionally and I love the fact that everyone gets an audio guided tour of the battlefield without extra cost. more

The brand new exhibition center had been open only 6 weeks when my friend and I went to visit. Wow! I have seen more museums and exhibitions then I care to mention and this one was just superb in every way. From the latest technologies demonstrating the battle to good old fashioned guides explaining the battle, I was just continually... more
