We booked two tours with John McDonald of The Hebridean Explorer, one day going around Inverness and Loch Ness and one day to the Isle of Skye. We had the best time both days. John knows the Highlands well. He knows the history and the people. Our tours were well paced, and John would stop anywhere we asked if we... More

My husband and I, along with our son and his fiancée, spent a wonderful day exploring the Highlands with John. His personal story and historic information really enhanced the beauty and drama of the places we visited. He flexed the itinerary to make sure we had a perfect day exploring well known sites and off the beaten track castle ruins... More

Our trip with John MacDonald was a day to remember forever. Great perspectives on the history and topography of Scotland, bringing time from the Battle of Culloden (and before--Pictish stones!) to the present of Macallan scotch. I feel like we had a personal guide through time and we felt connected to the Highlands and Highlanders. Yes we also saw the... More

My husband and I spent the day with John on July 16 and went on a wonderful customized tour with a couple of extra sights thrown in. It was a beautiful day and John made the time fly with such wonderful commentary on the history of the country. He told us about all the sights ahead of time and kept... More

Thank you for the great review - I really enjoyed our scotch whisky and loch ness tour and I'm so pleased that you had such a fun time. I'm probably biased but I think scotch whisky and Highland scenery is a wonderful combination! More

Too many good things to say about this trip and John MacDonald. First, John is the most knowledgeable and friendly guide I have ever met. This trip is about 260 miles long. You would think that would be a very long day, but John is a master at making the time pass very quickly. He allows plenty of time for... More

I would give John more than 5 stars! The Hebridean Explorer is THE tour to book if you are in the Highlands. His knowledge of Scottish history and of the area is phenomenal. I booked the 11 hour Isle of Skye Explorer for my 12 y/o son and I and it was a wonderful trip from Inverness with enough time... More

My wife, parents-in-law and I spent a wonderful day on John's Skye tour. He picked us up at our Inverness B&B and whisked us down past Loch Ness (on that day blanketed by a suitably mysterious mist), through the magnificent Glen Shiel, stopped at Eilean Donan Castle, and went up to Portree on Skye. Along the way, he made frequent... More

Thanks for the brilliant review - it was a great Isle of Skye day tour with you all and I really enjoyed all the Irish connections. Delighted that the rest of your trip went well and the train/taxi option to Glen Shee worked well. More

Our family (5 -- all adults) just spent a wonderful day with John MacDonald. We were picked up at our rental flat by John and he charmed us from his initial greeting through dropping us off 11 hours later after the Adventure Tour. His sense of humor makes the time fun, but we were especially intrigued and captivated by his... More

Our family went on two tours with John Macdonald....the 11 hour Isle of Skye tour and the Highland tour. Both trips were all day tours and although that might sound like a long day for many, trust me when I say it's goes by very, very quick. John grew up in Scotland (Isle of Lewis I recall) and has a... This tour was absolutely wonderful! We were picked up at our rental flat by the charming and knowledgeable Mr. MacDonald who took us on a marvelous day long adventure.
