Description: With spring just around the corner why not visit Britain's only...
With spring just around the corner why not visit Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural environment. At this time of year all of our reindeer are our and about free-ranging in the Cairngorm mountains, winter coats are getting scruffier and the cows are looking increasingly pregnant with calving coming fast in May! Visits go everyday at 11am at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as they lead you onto the reindeer's mountain free-range. Once there, your guide will tell you all about the reindeer and you can walk amongst them, stroking them and feeding them by hand. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will take you across some rough and muddy ground up the mountainside so make sure you've got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! As the reindeer are free-ranging at this time of year please give us a wee call on the day of your visit to make sure we've found the herd! Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself. For younger visitors, there is a quiz, you can make your own badge, or make an antler headband.

This was such a fantastic experience. We were taken up into the hills and had a very muddy and windy half hour walk to get to the reindeer, where there were around 40 of them. We then got to feed them and interact with them, which was amazing. Beautiful creatures, so much fun. Wasn't half windy though!

My boyfriend and I visited while we were in the area. We wanted to go on the tour, however, they are only at 11am so we missed it and there are no reindeers in the paddocks at the time of year we went. However, we enjoyed seeing the exhibition and will return at some point to do the tour.

It was very nice getting up close and personal with about 64 members of the reindeer herd. Being able to see all their different characters and speaking to the people who know them best was great. Those who took the tour seemed to genuinely have a passion for the reindeer and were able to answer every question we threw at... More

The walk to feed the reindeer was well worth it. As you approach the area you can only see one or two reindeer and you will think this is a waste of time. The guide then calls out and from nowhere will come a whole herd. Be prepared to be bumped and knocked by these friendly animals as they look... More

Thanks for your review, and glad you enjoyed your visit to the reindeer herd. We don't have a cafe because we have absolutely no space to put one anywhere, and we also wouldn't want to compete with either the Forestry Cafe 50m away, or the Glenmore cafe down by the campsite which is about 300m away. Both businesses have been... More

A very informative and worthwhile experience, really enjoyed it. Took approximately 20 minutes to get to the herd from the car park with plenty of information provided by the guide. Spent about another 30-45 minutes with the herd before leaving of our own will due to the extremely cold winds. Lovely to get up close and feed the herd, the... More

We had a brilliant day out 28/02/15 with the Reindeer, the guide was very friendly and helpfull, and also very informative. We had a little walk, advisable to take boots or wellies on this trip, but its not a strenous walk at all, the guide can offer walking sticks for your use. The Reindeer appeared over the hill, it was... More

We almost didn't do this ... While we were waiting at their main location, I had my doubts about whether this was just a money grab. If you want to see reindeer in a beautiful location take the tour up to the hills. It was great to see so many reindeer up close and observe their different personalities. Do be... More

A brilliant trip out, yes it was a tough walk with a 3 year old who I had to carry on the way back, but completely worth it! Fantastic creatures and a very worthwhile experience! Make sure you are prepared with correct footwear and clothing!
