Type: Nature & wildlife areas, Nature & Parks
Owner description: Visit Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural environment. Follow your guide as they lead you up to the reindeer's mountain enclosure. Once there, your guide will tell you all about the reindeer and you can walk amongst them, stroking them and feeding them by hand.Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself. For younger visitors, there is a quiz, you can make your own badge, or make an antler headband.

A brilliant trip out, yes it was a tough walk with a 3 year old who I had to carry on the way back, but completely worth it! Fantastic creatures and a very worthwhile experience! Make sure you are prepared with correct footwear and clothing!

This is a great experience both for kids and adults alike. My husband and I have been up the mountain to see the reindeer and thoroughly enjoyed feeding them and finding out some very interesting facts about these wonderful, beautiful animals. A must on a visit to Aviemore.

This was cumulatively my third visit to the Reindeer centre but first for my fiancé and the hill trek was excellent, getting up close to Reindeer in their natural habitat, feeding them and getting lots of lovely photos. My only negative comment would be that during the time with the Reindeer we had a constant sound track of several small... More

Many thanks for your review, I'm glad you really enjoyed meeting the reindeer on the hill visit. Apologies for the crying children, this is something we obviously don't really have any control over, and weather is a major factor in this. We do our best when booking visitors on to the visit to warn them of the weather conditions up... More

We visited with kids 2 & 5 and got a fairly clear "don't go out to see the herd" warning, which was a shame but probably sensible. However, the little paddocks and museum down at low level are good fun and worth a (short) visit.

Thanks for your review, and I'm glad you still had a good time in the paddocks and exhibition. I'm very sorry that we advised that your kids were too little for the hill visit on the day you visited, but as you can imagine the weather conditions up on the mountain where the reindeer live are completely different from lower... This herd are roaming free, you can go out to visit them on a guided trip (wear sensible footwear) or just visit the shop and the very imformative information centre with a couple of reindeers in the paddock further down the mountain. We didn't go on the trip this time but will next, we could see the reindeer from the... More

Not only do you get hands on with feeding the reindeer and stroking them up close, its an incredible experience just to go and listen to the amazing and interesting facts that the herders have to say! seeing as I have been... Missed the daily tour at 11am but got to see some of the herd in the paddock along with an exhibition which was very interesting. The herder in the shop was very friendly and her enthusiasm rubbed off on my boys who loved getting close to the reindeer.

Got our tickets from the centre and headed off up to the meeting point. Spectacular views! Then met Andy and Abby who led us off on a mountain walk to meet the reindeer. Entertaining walk, make sure you have suitable footwear. It is not a long walk but quite tricky in places, especially when you sink one leg in the... More

Meet up at the centre, see some of the herd there then head up the mountain to park nearer the herd. Nice sunny walk, in sometimes knee high snow, for about 20 minutes. Arrived at herd and hand fed these beautiful creatures. Awesome scenery and experience. Helpful and friendly staff.
