Description: The hills are turning green, the sun is mostly shining and spring is here...
The hills are turning green, the sun is mostly shining and spring is here to stay! Take a visit to see Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. May is an exciting time for us reindeer herders as antlers are beginning to grow and it's calving season so some bandy legged calfies may be tootling about! Visits go every day at 11am and 2.30Pm at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you've got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself. For younger visitors, there is a quiz, you can make your own badge, or make an antler headband.

We were travelling with our tour group (who was excellent!) and decided to pop in and feed the reindeer. Our guide had spoken to a manager prior to our arrival about feeding the reindeer inside the enclsure next to the main office instead of spending too much time going up the hill to see them. When we got to the... More

Many thanks for your review, and I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your visit to the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre. However, although your guide may have been in touch with us previously to investigate the option of taking your group to visit the reindeer paddock area, no proper arrangement had been confirmed on this occasion. We can only do a hand-feeding session... More

Lovely walk up the the reindeer paddock up on the hillside. Waited for the herd to come down from the mountain for feeding time. everyone got a chance to feed them, and the whole herd came right up among us - they are such docile and gentle creatures. it was wonderful to be right in among such stunning and beautiful... So lovely being up close and personal with these gorgeous gentle animals. Loved feeding them! They are just adorable and well worth the short hike up to see them in the paddock.

We always love doing things like this and we were not dissapointed. The guide was excellent and you really got close to the reindeer. Throw in some sunny (although windy) weather and you have a really nice experience. You have to walk a bit uphill to get there, but it was not bad. The guide was very friendly and knowledgable... We visited in May but unfortunately could only visit the encloSure due to having our dogs. This was an informative experience and we would have live to have seen the reindeer on the hills which I'm sure is a great experience

What a truly fantastic experience. We joined a small group lead by the knowledgeable staff from the Reindeer Centre and hiked up into the mountains. We were lucky enough to have clear, lovely weather and spotted the herd from a distance. The hike on our day was about 30 minutes up a path and then a fe minutes down through... More

We had heard from some friends that this was a worthwhile trip - I would certainly recommend if you are in the Aviemore Area then this is a trip that must be included. The staff are friendly and really knowledgeable about the reindeer - tracking them down is fun too, gives you some wonderful views and chance to enjoy the... More
