Description: With spring just around the corner why not visit Britain's only...
With spring just around the corner why not visit Britain's only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural environment. At this time of year all of our reindeer are our and about free-ranging in the Cairngorm mountains, winter coats are getting scruffier and the cows are looking increasingly pregnant with calving coming fast in May! Visits go everyday at 11am at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as they lead you onto the reindeer's mountain free-range. Once there, your guide will tell you all about the reindeer and you can walk amongst them, stroking them and feeding them by hand. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will take you across some rough and muddy ground up the mountainside so make sure you've got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! As the reindeer are free-ranging at this time of year please give us a wee call on the day of your visit to make sure we've found the herd! Don't fancy the hill trip? For those less able, from Easter to New Year, we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock at the Centre itself. For younger visitors, there is a quiz, you can make your own badge, or make an antler headband.

We had a lovely morning feeding the reindeer herd on the slopes of Cairngorm with two extremely knowledgable herders. We had the opportunity to hand feed the reindeer and even though there were 25 or so in our group there was plenty of quality time with the herd and there was no pressure to move on. The herd are not... More

Myself and my fiancé went on the hill tour on Saturday. Both of our tour guides were very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. We had a steep walk to see the reindeer which was well worth it. Not only did we have a lovely view but there were lots of reindeer that we were able to feed and stroke.... More

we decided to give it a try, told to get there 10 am, was a little early but does depend where the herd are, they are in different places, we had 5 minute drive plus 15 minute walk, but get to feed them and get up very close, they are very tame. Staff were excellent and good knowledge

My French flatmate had never been graced with the opportunity to travel outside Aberdeen where we both study at university in the 2 years we have studied here. I am a local to Aberdeen and thought that it would be a great idea to take a road trip up to Aviemore for the views. After reading TripAdvisor reviews the night... More

We really enjoyed this trip even though I felt that it was slightly on the dear side. The team take you on a short trip up the mountain and a 10 min walk to reach the herd. There was plenty of time to learn about the reindeer, take in the lovely views and for hand feeding. All in all, it... More

First, the area is absolutely beautiful. You take a short (easy) hike to the feeding area. Along the way, the guide(s) may tell a brief history of the reindeer's existence in Scotland. The hike is really lovely - beautiful surroundings to view. Once at the feeding area, the reindeer are released from their enclosure. They are surprisingly gentle as they... More

This was such a fantastic experience. We were taken up into the hills and had a very muddy and windy half hour walk to get to the reindeer, where there were around 40 of them. We then got to feed them and interact with them, which was amazing. Beautiful creatures, so much fun. Wasn't half windy though!

My boyfriend and I visited while we were in the area. We wanted to go on the tour, however, they are only at 11am so we missed it and there are no reindeers in the paddocks at the time of year we went. However, we enjoyed seeing the exhibition and will return at some point to do the tour.

It was very nice getting up close and personal with about 64 members of the reindeer herd. Being able to see all their different characters and speaking to the people who know them best was great. Those who took the tour seemed to genuinely have a passion for the reindeer and were able to answer every question we threw at... More
