After doing the West Highland Way which was our first long distance walk last year, my friend Yvonne and I decided the natural thing would be to continue north so got everything organised through Easyways for the Great Glen Way. We were a bit apprehensive as the WHW was so good (despite terrrible weather) and the reviews for the GGW... More

john h in his review below, is accurate in his description of the shortcommings of the route. I returned yesterday having completed the route following 3 days of backpacking with my walking buddy. Positives- The Loch Lochy section is very attractive, The whole route is very well marked with posts and information boards The canal sections are interesting Negatives Far... More

I did the GG but in reverse, solo, from Inverness to Fort William. The first leg out of Inverness is a beast and a bit boring. I'd rec grabbing a taxi in Inverness and cutting it down to a 7 mi hike. You will miss nothing. Hotels & B&Bs along the way are excellent. Food top notch. After Spean you... More

Rode the GGW in a day last summer. Nearly broke me but a couple of espressos in Fiddlers in Drumnadrochit, 18 or so miles from the end made all the difference. The route is 99% cycleable for the intermediate biker. The 1% that isn't is the climb out of Drumnadrochit, which is probably doable with fresh legs. The first half... More

We all considered this walk to be a trudge along rubble forestry roads or long straight canal towpaths. Having done the West Highland Way the year before which was fantastic this was a very very disappointing walk. More

This trail has a mix of walking from very easy canal / loch paths to a bit higher up and overlooking the Glen. More

Firstly, don't believe it when people tell you this is a flat boring walk following a canal tow path. Some of the views we enjoyed, albeit in brilliant sunshine, were comparable with the West Highland Way. There are hostels and B&Bs aplenty, baggage carrying services and enough shops and restaurants to ensure nobody starves. More importantly though, you get a... More

We walked the Great Glen Way a few years ago and thought it was amazing. There are plenty of places to stay en route and companies who will transfer your luggage daily. We chose to carry ours until we finally came to our senses on the last day faced with the final (definately most difficult day) 18 mile hike to... More
