The old barras as we know it has been allowed to decline, with many of the old traders gone.....still worth a visit though as bargains can still be found....still lots of banter and glasgow hospitality around in the barras for those who like a laugh with their shopping ex perience. On monclure street a whole load of new traders have... More

Once Glasgow's long established Barrows weekend market thrived on countless stalls, tenement hideaways and colorful barkers touting cut- price china, curtains, silverware, and stalls crammed with trash and treasures galore, out June Saturday visit proved a sad disappointment - Vanished today is second and third generation stall-keepers once enjoyed as they dispensed cheery banter peddling antique stamp collections, military souvenirs,... This proved to be a disappointment, especially from the shopping perspective. And expect to be told any story by the salespeople if it might snare a sale. But on a positive note - if you go there just for the colourful characters rather than bargains, you might find it rewarding.

I remember as a child being taken by my father every weekend to the glasgow Barras. It's a very fond childhood memory. The past few years have seen a decline in the traders and visitors and it had a sort of empty feel to it like the soul had disappeared from it. Very sad for what was once the heart... More

The Barras is listed as a 'stop' on the city tour bus. The bus commentary spoke well of it so we decided to visit but the bus diver's warning to "watch your wallet and bag" as we got off the bus hinted at embarrassment. At 11.00 am on a Sunday morning it seemed like the set of a Mad Max... More

I usually visit the Barras at least once a year but I think this visit will be my last,It is not a patch on what it once was ,more flea market and knock of DVD's than anything else these days,i do enjoy my trips to Glasgow but this will be the last to the Barras.

I've been working in Glasgow for the last few months - been to the market a couple of times - once I thought I was on the set of 'Lock, stock....' Cops and people running everywhere... The last couple of weeks have been quite but the crooks are nowhere to be seen. Be really good if they got a food... More

I have been going to the Barras for years and it has always been very rough in some parts and some attempts have been made to raise the standards - these areas have not done too well. I was back today and it has never been so quiet - lots of stalls were not even open. I get a bit... More
