What a lovely walk to get to the beach. It felt like a wonderful place to get away and enjoy the sun and sand. We collected beautiful shells, and some sea glass. We didn't leave until dusk. This was one of our daughter's favorite destinations in St. Andrews.

All made great by a gorgeous sunny day. Many people but still plenty space. The toilets could be done with refurbishment and a little bit of maintenance on the path from the car park wouldnt go a miss. Great day out. However do be aware that many dog owners don't keep their dogs on the leash and this can spoilt... More

West Sands Beach is beautiful! On a calm summer evening we visited at low tide, and the beach seemed to expand forever into the ocean. It was as if we were walking on glistening smooth glass! The fine sand was delightful between my toes and yes, just like a typical American, I ran along the shore pretending to be a... More

Over a mile long the beach runs from the 1st tee of the Old Course in an almost due north direction. sheltered by sand dunes and is just yards from a free car park. Great for sand castles, walking and running (for the Chariots of fire fans). Best time is when the tide goes out and the sand is firm.... More

We always visit this beach on a hots summers day as its a lovely gem in Scotland. Although it takes a few hours to get there it is worth it! The town of St Andrews is picturesque and definitely worth a visit

Came up to stay with some friends in St. Andrews over Easter, we took a few walks along the West Sands and it brought back fond memories of when I was a student.

This is a great beach, nice and wide and long. It is where Chariots of Fire was filmed and is worth at least a photo. Take the time to walk along this beach just next to the St. Andrews golf course,

Great mass of fine sands beyond a single row of dunes. Easy to get to, perfect for an afternoon's walk, a great place for a run, or even to fly a kite. Clean and clutter free, and surprisingly underused given it's so close to St Andrew's.

We spend the summers going to the beach in the Hamptons, and so are used to beautiful soft sand beaches that stretch for miles. Who would have thought we'd find the same in Scotland? A huge plus: free parking, no crowds.
