Passing time in St Andrews I decided to visit the Botanic Garden, had a lovely morning exploring - and even tried the Gruffalo Trail. It was an easy walk from the town centre following the Viaduct path. Shame there is no cafe but toilet facilities are spotlessly clean.

Came with children aged 8,7 and 4. They loved that Gruffalo Trail. Well worth a visit. Lots of space to run round in. Green houses were interesting too.

Not crowded - mostly women and kids. Nicely laid out - lovely pond and water feature. Alot of flowers were past blooming but everything nicely taken care of.

Free to RHS members, £6 to others over 18. Spend a couple of hours wandering the paths through the gardens and then through the various glass houses. Interesting wild areas and kitchen garden space. Enjoyed the hot houses and tropical plants.

Visited on a sunny day with some showers. Excellent gardens and greenhouses. Very relaxing to wander around and there was a basic cafe which sold tea, coffee etc and cakes. Reasonably priced. Good shop with pleasant staff. Yearly ticket available for £27 for a couple or £5 per visit each.

Visited today! I think it was the only peaceful place in St.Andrews (middle of "Open" golf tournament), so for that I already loved it! We got added bonus, as it's entry free weekend (normally £5 /adult). It's a stunning garden to walk around - specialy in a sunny day, like today. U can be there for hours - they have... More

If you are interested in plants it is worth walking the short distance to the gardens. Lots of different plants from all over the world many of which you may not have seen before.

Even with the overcast and at times, rainy, this is a lovely, peaceful garden. The terraced rock garden and alpine glass house were my favorites. The rhododendron were at peak bloom leaving quite an impression. Also, they had some beautiful plants for sale.

Hard not to compare this to Edinburgh Botanics which is bigger and better maintained, otherwise okay for a short visit. £5 entry fee.
