Would be more frightening to do this in the winter in the dark, but it was very entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. What made it more enjoyable was the participation of the group especially witch 'Hazel' from Canada and 10 year old girl who screamed most of the evening. Gives an insight into Edinburgh's past with some gory stories of murder... More

First up: you should go in Winter, when it turns dark earlier. If you take this tour in summer it is not really scary or anything. The Vampire guy was quite nice and I liked his stories. He was definately entertaining. The other guy on the other hand was just annoying. He tried to scare people but then acted like... More

I was expecting a ghost tour round Edinburgh where I would be frightened and shocked by the stories! The guy that lead it was very nice but the guy who played the monk and many other characters was very odd and unfunny and almost on something... Didn't really go with the tour! The scariest part was going down an alley... More

My brother found out about this tour online before we went to Edinburgh so we pre-booked it. I would rank this as one of the highlights of our trip. It was SO much fun. History interwoven with a ghost-story vibe -- a hysterical character actor, a wonderful guide, wonderful sites. Doesn't interfere with daytime site-seeing. Reasonable price. No reason not... More

My wife booked this for something different, although I live nr Edinburgh you just don't know what's on your doorstep, we really enjoyed the tour through the close's of the old town, the tour guide was very informative and funny and there are plenty of Jumper ooter's to keep you on you toes, there were all nationalities on the tour... This was great! It's a good way to see the city and the actors were hilarious. One of our guys had bright red curly hair (don't know his name) and he and his colleague did a great job. Reasonably priced at around 9 bps, cash only. Young kids not recommended but probably okay for 12 and up.

This was a great little tour around Edinburgh. You got some history behind the city, and they try to make it a little scary, but with humor.

It was a cold Edinburgh night, so my family and I were worried that a walking tour may not have been a good choice... we're we wrong! We enjoyed every minute of it. The stories and jokes were excellent and the surprises kept the blood flowing. Highly recommend this!

Did the Murder and Mystery walk on a beautiful evening. "Adam" and his assistant were excellent company and very entertaining. It was a great way to explore parts of the city on foot and to learn a little history and folk lore in bite sized pieces while poking fun at the past. Suitable for all ages as long as you... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
