Two experts bicker their way through Edinburgh's literary history from the Old Town to the New, with a few pubs and a lot of laughs. The " experts" are highly talented actors who engage, inform and entertain in equal measures. A good fun evening. Recommended.

Stumbled upon this tour by chance and we were so glad we did. It was by far the most enjoyable thing we did in Edinburgh. A combination of drinking, poems, history, stories and more drinking. They even had a little quiz at the end to check how much attention we'd been paying. Absolutely fantastic and well worth every penny.

This pub tour was so much fun! The pubs were all lovely and Ross and Caroline were hilarious! I learned a lot and had a great time. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone!

We weren't able to stay for the whole tour because we had an early flight, but our two guides were so gracious and talented! A bit of an older crowd, but nice for a weeknight.

My mom loved it. My 22 year old night club loving friend loved it. The old German man who spoke very little English loved it. The just engaged on Arthur's Seat that morning couple loved it. My dad, a huge history buff, loved it. I, who have been on the tour three times now, have loved it every. single. time.... More

The weather outside was frightful, as the song goes, and I nearly stayed bundled up inside even though I had booked this tour weeks in advance. Scotland in November is no place for a Florida girl! But I bundled up and headed out, and I'm glad I did- our guides were brilliant and (almost!) made the whole group forget about... More

A fun way to spend an evening in Edinburgh! Information about writers Burns, Scott, and Stevenson are presented by two differing perspectives: Clart (Gregor) and McBrain (Hazel). It was an interesting way to learn about the writers and we had fun traveling to different pubs and meeting new people. Extra kudos to Gregor, very good at what he does and... More

We booked the tour at the last minute and ran off to the pub for dinner at 6, only to find that the dinner is served at a random hotel across the street. We were the only ones having dinner; staff was very nice and efficient though, but really, don't bother. Don't have a clue why they don't have this... More

Our guides (actors Mark and Dave) did a fabulous job of bringing Edinburgh's literary giant's to life. The experience made our subsequent stops around Edinburgh much more meaningful.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
