Last summer I set off on a 5-year goal to celebrate my next 5 birthdays in 5 different countries. The very first year, I found myself in Edinburgh on the eve of my 23rd birthday. While leafing through a LP book, I stumbled upon The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour and decided I had to try this out. For me this... More

A friend of mine talked me into going on this tour because it's something of a pub crawl, walking tour, and a great activity for fans of literature. It kicks off at the Beehive Inn at the Grassmarket at 7:30. My tip is to arrive early, book a spot on the tour, and have dinner at the Inn (which serves... More

A good fun way to spend an evening in Edinburgh. Mostly outside so in the Scottish spring you do have to wrap up warmly.

I was very disappointed in this, the advertising is misleading, we expected actors in costume not ordinary street clothes and they did t stay in character for the entire tour. The information was dull, sometimes inaccurate and nothing that you couldn't get out of the most basic Edinburgh guide. Not only that they left out one of the most important... More

A lovely way to spend a cold evening, visiting some of Edinburgh's haunts and hearing about their lurid and enlightening past. A great way or presenting the duality of the city and its literary heroes. Great actors and plenty of time allowed for a drink and a rest before moving on. Just make sure you wrap up warm or take... Mark and Laverne were fantastic guides through the literary history of Edinburgh, with the perfect blend of humor and education, with no shortage of opportunities to experience the great pubs around the Royal Mile. Highly recommended, even if you're not a literary geek. Tip: Get there on time, and take advantage of the bathroom breaks when you have them.

This strolling play and pub crawl was a lot of fun and was an entertaining way to learn about many key literary figures based in and around Edinburgh and Scotland and their roles in history. The accents can be difficult to decipher at times and in part that is fun and adds to the experience. It was a nice way... More

My husband and I went to Edinburgh, Scotland for our honeymoon and found this tour from trip advisor. This was one of the greatest tours we took while we were on our trip. It was very fun, entertaining and full of historic information regarding authors, and poets from Edinburgh. We walked to different pubs around Edinburgh and met some other... More

We just got home from this tour with Mark and Laverne. They were both fantastic - wonderful actors, great rapport. It was our last night in Scotland, and it made us sad to go home. Would recommend this to anyone who wants a very entertaining and unusual evening in Edinburgh. Don't miss it.

The tour is very unreliable. Do not pay ahead of time. A group of nine (all prepaid) were left hanging on Sept. 30th for the tour. No one showed up or even contacted us about the tour cancellation. Very disappointing and unprofessional way to run a business.

Dear 80ABH, We apologise for any inconvenience caused by our cancellation. Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
