We took the tour on the last night of a two week literary/film focused trip across the UK. We have never been a fan of traditional group tours and often opt for self guided walking tours when possible, but the combination of literature, history, and pubs was too good to turn down. Gregor and Dave were great, and both well... More

A great way to spend a night in this fabulous city. Two actors actually perform skits as they take you to four pubs, talking about the incredible literary history of Edinburgh. Lots of stuff you wouldn't otherwise know, funny performances staged as debates, but also good choices of friendly, warm, welcoming pubs. Even though it rained our night, it was... More

My friend and I did this our last night in Edinburgh, intrigued by the postcard adverts we saw showing 2 arguing men in 19th century period clothing. The starting point was easy to find, and we were able to buy our tickets the day of. Instead of the guides shown on the advertisements (web, signboards, and flyers), we ended up... More

The Literary Pub tour with Ross and Riley was a lot of fun, interesting and provided a bit of a different angle on the city in comparison to other walking tours. You will not get any historical lectures or straight-forward information, but you'll get a dramatized account of the life of several colorful personae who lived in Edinburgh and frequented... More

I had a lot of fun on this tour and only small fraction of it had to do w/ the drinks. The actors, Ashleigh and Dave were great. It was a crazy evening full of unplanned obstacles and Ashleigh brilliantly improved his way out of every one.

We joined this tour at the Beehive Pub after having dinner at the Apex International Hotel across the street. Dinner is an add-on to the tour, but we wanted to have an early dinner to make sure of being on time for the tour, and as it turned out, we were very happy with the food and service at the... More

Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour Enjoy a literary battle of wits as two actors/guides take you thru a short tour of the old town to discover Edinburgh's literary past - and some wonderful pubs. A great way to meet fellow visitors and to spend an evening in Edinburgh. This is a hidden gem amongst so many other wonderful Edinburgh experiences. Highly... More

Gregor and Laverne made this a perfect evenings trip through the pubs and verse of Scotland's beautiful city. Their performance and passion brought the history alive.

A very entertaining and informative tour with Mark and Laverne getting into character and bantering while educating us about Scottish literary figures and Edinburgh. Well done to the two of them for holding forth against the Greek Chorus of inebriated youth and raucous seagulls at various destinations. I can recommend this tour as a real treat

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
