I must say we met the most rude and inconsistent bouncer ever at this place. We had a great night out in Edinburgh and were advised to visit this place, my friend was refused because he was wearing trainers and this was despite several people clearly being in trainers! As the bouncer rejected several people stood beside him smoking as... More

A nice gay bar situated in Edinburgh. With plenty of seating and also a dance floor at the back of the venue. I was there midweek and it was not to busy, found could take awhile to get served at times and also limited to just two shots per person per bar visit. Various different nights happen during the week,... More

An amazing place. There is always so much going on in Planet. The staff are excellent, incredibly friendly and quick and the atmosphere in the bar is always one of good fun and enjoyment. It's a great place for some entertainment with hilarious Drag Queens, karaoke, a weekly pub quiz with £100 to be won and the Bingo on a... More

This is probably one of the worst lesbian bars I have ever seen. The manager is rude; staff are lovely though. If you're expecting women there I'd probably avoid you'll find a significant number of old gay men there. I would recommend 'the street' instead at least you get what's advertised there.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
