Many local buses will take you to this beach 15 mins from downtown. Great to walk the promenade. Lots of local sights , sounds, main st shopping ,boutique shops, bargains at numerous charity shops, the Forrester pub on main st is a great place with dinner specials.Don,t miss the Turkish baths at the leisure center, you can buy trunks at... We came to visit and had a great time walking in the shore , it's a good place with nice boat trips and very kind people, it's not the first thing I will visit if I come to Edinburgh but it's a good place

Although not what it once was some decades back, Portobello beach remains a favourite part of town and it's great to see Sunday morning kayakers and canoeists making use of the water year round. In the summer when the weather is nice (yes, THAT one day a year!), it can be a great place to just find a spot and... More

Quick getaway from the heart of town but this is still a city beach. The sea is always too cold to get in, 10 degrees in the summer so it is really just for a stroll or a place to sit and watch the sea when the sun is out. Visit the Portobello Baptist church here on Sunday mornings, a... More

We took a wrong turn and ended up here. So glad we did, though. We strolled along the beach for an hour or two, had an ice cream then wandered into a beach side cafe for a well deserved hot chocolate. If its a warm (ish) day then this is the place to be to get away from the bustle... More

It is a very beatiful place especially in a sunny day to have a visit in Portobello. Nice place to enjoy a walk or to eat at any of the small restaurants there. Children can collect shells from the beach if they are luky. Buses have very convinient connection with town center.

A popular spot and often tricky to find a space for the car but worth persevering. A long beach with commanding views back to Edinburgh and toward Berwick Law. Excellent views across to Fife on a clear day. A good way to spend an hour no matter how good or bad the weather might be.

Far, far away from the tourist attractions of central Edinburgh lies Portobello Beach — a lovely, quiet, escape from all the crowds. Grandparents with children, couples with babies and dogs with frisbees dot the length of this beach on a sunny day. Friends go rowing in the water and kids run around with their tiny shovels and pails. On my... More
