If you are in Edinburgh and have only been around the city center (and the weather is nice), take a bus to the beach at Portobello. Nice, long, sandy beach. Lots of tea shops along the front. Popular with locals and visitors alike.

Used to go to Portobello Beach when I was a child nearly 60 years ago and loved it. Today its still a great family day out (when the sun shines). Visited this week on a sunny day and the Promenade and Beach was vibrant. Family strolling on the Prom and playing on the beach all very happy. The cafes were... More

A short distance from the busy town , the beach was very quiet and peaceful , a lovely relaxing walk , helped by great company and the sunshine . A worthwhile place for anyone with kids or just wanting away from the hustle and bustle for an hour or two .

Portobello was once the place Edinburgh went to play. A seaside town with classic seaside attractions -- arcades, food, salt water tidal swimming pool, entertainment, etc. The stuff of movies. While most of those classic icons of seaside resorts have disappeared, Portobello's history can still be sensed in a leisurely stroll along its promenade. It's one of my favorite places... More

Portobello makes a lovely day out, whether it's for a wintery walk and a beer in the pub or a picnic and a paddle with the kids on a sunny day. A long promenade to walk along, great views towards Fife, a growing cafe culture and a couple of good parks mean it has something for everyone. There is loads... More

Whether you're a sun worshiper or an ice cream fetishist; this beach has got it. Visit the espy for good food and great service, the dalriada pub for a casual drink and some live music or the beach house for a lovely slice of cake... Not to forget crumbs for a cracking cuppa or a doggy treat!! Languish in the... More
