I love this beach, it is always clean. It is a lovely walk along the prom with independent cafes and bistros as well as an amusement arcade and swimming pool along the stretch. A pub too so this beach has everything for all.

I don't think anyone was expecting the weather to be this lovely in April in Scotland. Popped down to Portobello beach in Edinburgh. Really quick and easy 20min bus ride from Princes St in Edinburgh. Bus stopped a 2 min walk away from sea front. The weather was glorious and it was a bank holiday so the beach was packed!!... More

Took a walk down to this beach while stopping at the premier inn which was only a 5 min train ride away. was a quiet, dry day in february so not at all busy but would imagine it too be even more lovely on a summers day.

The Portobello Beach is a beautiful place but is seems to be abandoned to itself. Really a scandal!, as it represents a fantastic attraction for locals and tourists. The Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Government should both improve and re-qualify the area, introducing new pubs/restaurants and disco-clubs for day and night visitors. Also free-playgrounds for children should be expanded and... More

We went there one May evening and ho ho, it was completely deserted. Maybe there would be more people at the peak of summer. But at other times, don't bother visiting unless it is solitude that you are after. There are a few bars lining the beach. Getting to the beach only involved a 30-minute bus ride from the town centre.

I definitely recommend a visit to the Portobello beach - it is easily accessible from the city center, and it'll give you a chance to take a relaxing walk by the ocean :)

We were here on a crisp, sunny, freezing winter's day and loved it! We took the 26 bus from South St David Street (right at the Scott Monument on Princes Street). Walked around Portobello for a bit and took to the beach. The promenade was fairly busy but the beach was peaceful and allowed for a satisfyingly long walk and... More

We brought in the New Year here as an alternative to the huge party in the City Centre! We have done this as a family for the last few years and it is becoming more popular each year with hundreds of people enjoying themselves. There are bonfires lit on the beach and fireworks let off at midnight. Everyone behaves responsibly... More

For me a trip to edinburgh is never complete without a visit to this beach. It offers a lovely walk along the seaside, loads to see and enjoy. Interesting buildings, a little garden with columns and soms places to have tea. Always bird around like eiders. Walk up the high street and enjoy the local shops, hop on a bus... More
