easily accessible from the city centre

I definitely recommend a visit to the Portobello beach - it is easily accessible from the city center, and it'll give you a chance to take a relaxing walk by the ocean :)

We were here on a crisp, sunny, freezing winter's day and loved it! We took the 26 bus from South St David Street (right at the Scott Monument on Princes Street). Walked around Portobello for a bit and took to the beach. The promenade was fairly busy but the beach was peaceful and allowed for a satisfyingly long walk and... More

We brought in the New Year here as an alternative to the huge party in the City Centre! We have done this as a family for the last few years and it is becoming more popular each year with hundreds of people enjoying themselves. There are bonfires lit on the beach and fireworks let off at midnight. Everyone behaves responsibly... More

For me a trip to edinburgh is never complete without a visit to this beach. It offers a lovely walk along the seaside, loads to see and enjoy. Interesting buildings, a little garden with columns and soms places to have tea. Always bird around like eiders. Walk up the high street and enjoy the local shops, hop on a bus... More

Its an attractive beach, clean with loads of room to run around or make sandcastles. Beautiful views across the Forth and towards Edinburgh.

This beach is worth driving out of Edinburgh to experience. There are pleasant coffee places nearby - like The Front Room on the High Street- and the air is a lot fresher than in Central Edinburgh.

Not much to do here besides strolling around and eating out. Really windy all year, so I'd give it miss during these cold months if you're short of time. Relatively far from the city centre, takes half an hour by bus. Otherwise when weather allows, it can be fun with with children or for couples. Not the cleanest beaches ever,... More

Not a beach for children or public to enjoy. Lots of irresponsible dog owners leaving behind their dogs mess.A shame as it only about 30 min from the city centre and has potential for all people to spend some quality time there. I will not be visiting there again. ...instead the same amount of journey time can take you to... More

This is a lovely place to take a walk and relax. Wide beautiful beach, fine sands and a few small restaurants to grab some fish and chips or a hot tea. The perfect place to relax or go for an afternoon running. The sunset offers a nice view over the beach and the buildings around, so you may want to... More
