Edinburgh's Christmas Market

First visit to Edinburgh and indeed to a Christmas market! We were there in December during storm Desmond weekend which had an impact on the Ferris wheel (obviously) which I would have liked to experience for the views! However, we visited the Markets twice during our stay and really enjoyed it despite the wet and windy weather. The Gluwhein certainly... More

I loved these markets. They had the part at St Andrews square, which I think was better for ice skating as it was in a circle not just a boring square like the one on Princes Street. The markets weren't that great on this bit. But the European markets on Princes Street were fantastic. There was food, drinks, clothing, jewellery,... More

I enjoy visiting Christmas markets in other countries and the one in Edinburgh is definitely as good as any abroad and better than the Glasgow market. Plenty of stalls selling food and drink and stalls selling Christmas gifts and decorations. My daughter thought that she saw a stall selling kartoffelpuffer, a German fried potato pancake, and we searched but could not... Great place to visit especially in the evening to get into the Christmas spirit. Lots of varied stalls, some of which sell really interesting craftwork etc, however, there are also a considerable number selling rather mass produced tac, so a discerning eye is required. Lively and vibrant atmosphere with the fun fair, ice rink and Santa Land adjacent to the... More

I really enjoyed Christmas market visit all though weather was very wet there was still a good vibe. Alot of the stuff is over priced but the sellers need to make money. The food was nice as it was hot and the weather was cold and damp. I enjoyed the Bailey's hot chocolate.I live in Edinburgh go to the market... More

Is pretty and there were some good bits for stocking fillers and bits of you wanted something more unique. But it is expensive and repetitive.

The stalls were lovely and the atmosphere was great but the prices were very expensive but when I saw something I wanted to buy I actually didn't get to as the seller was too busy talking about food with someone else!

Popped along on Sunday morning, early doors to ensure I watched traders setting up & gaining full knowledge where was offering the better deals of the day. Some of the products are out of this world and traders are eager to ensure early cash sales by offering samples of stock. However, a small tip here. Be aware that some of... More

I visited Christmas market in December 2014 during my trip to Edinburgh. It was located in Princes St Gardens. To be honest I was very surprised! As Im from central Europe and visited beautiful Christmas markets around there, I can say Edinburgh Christmas market was nice experience. I can´t really compare it to Christmas markets in Vienna, Prague or in... More
