I visited Christmas market in December 2014 during my trip to Edinburgh. It was located in Princes St Gardens. To be honest I was very surprised! As Im from central Europe and visited beautiful Christmas markets around there, I can say Edinburgh Christmas market was nice experience. I can´t really compare it to Christmas markets in Vienna, Prague or in... More

I have recently moved to Edinburgh and I've fallen in love with the city, it's certainly only comes third to only London and York however the Edinburgh Christmas market was a huge disappointment and shockingly expensive... £4.50 for a cup of mulled wine but wait you also had to pay £2 deposit for the mug! Seriously. The stalls were equally... More

This was our excuse for visiting Edinburgh, but really we just fancied a weekend in the city. Had we come specifically for the market then we would probably have been disappointed. We knew beforehand that the rides were very expensive, but it is still a shock when you work out how much it would cost for a family to go... More

Our first visit to Edinburghs Christmas Market, I have only Glasgows to compare it with. Reading older reviews it seems we got lucky with our Thursday early evening visit on a bitterly cold night as it wasn't too busy at all. We walked freely about the various stalls seeing their offerings which were of a good variety we all thought.... More

The layout of the market is much better, they have used the whole terraces of the gardens to spread the stall about and make access better. There seems to be more actual attractions but the stalls are very much the same as before with some real crap being sold at silly prices. The number of places selling alcohol seems to have... More

When it first started (2000 ish?) there was a nice mix of food drink and authentic crafts and you could walk around comfortably looking at things; overall a pleasant experience. Now its mostly food (not enough restaurants in Edinburgh obviously or more likely people don't seem to be able to go for more than 15 minutes without stuffing something in... More

we have this market in the city every year but the latest one was a complete rip -off , more food and drink stalls than craft stalls and at prices that made you just walk on by.

We came from Germany ... and found a soulless, interchangeable standard copy of any modern "Christmas (mass) Market". Oviously there is an entrepreneur who organizes DOZENS of these markets worldwide, all according to exactly the same scheme: pseudo "cosiness", pseudo "authentic" craft made in China, overpriced drinks ... a purely commercial affair without any spirit, apart from alcoholic ones (even... We think this was too expensive. We have been going for a number of years and usually enjoy ourselves. Unfortunately it is now too big and too busy especially for a family with small children.

Oh my, what a horrendous christmas market in Edinburgh this year, all of the passenger's on the train back home were saying the same. 99% of the stalls were selling cheap chinese made mass produced tat, this is the first time I have visited a craft market and never bought anything! Most of the stalls were duplicated and just selling... More
