A native of Edinburgh, James will provide an historical account of each attraction visited. His goal is to help you get the best from your camera and show you how to compose professional shots. If your camera has the ability to shoot in manual mode, James is confident that after four hours with him, you will never go back to any of the programmable modes ever again. James shows you how to take each photograph and guarantees that each participant will take home professional looking images that can be displayed and enjoyed for many years to come. The tours are aimed at all levels of photographer, from absolute beginner to experienced professional. James does not use confusing jargon, preferring to explain things in a simple to understand manner. James is friendly, polite and encouraging. The tours start at 10am daily (Monday - Saturday) and last approximately 4 hours. Edinburgh Photography Tours were established in 2010 and have been operating successfully for four years. As with all great ideas, you will always find less creative people try to imitate a successful company. Please do not confuse our company with cheap imitations. We work very hard to ensure our clients have a first class experience on our tours and we continue to strive for excellence every day. « less

Highlight of a ten day trip where we tried to do it all and see it all. An afternoon with James topped them all. Learned so much about photography. James keeps a difficult topic simple. Bonus was learning so much about Edinburgh and even life. Very personable. Exceeded expectations by a mile. Will use this new knowledge and experience immediately.

We did the photographic tour around Edinburgh with James today - his knowledge and love of his city and photography were sensational. It was a terrific day - we all learnt lots about the history of Edinburgh, took some stunning photos, saw parts of the city the average tourist would miss and learnt some new hints and tricks. I would... More

I am truly a novice camera user. After the tour I have taken some spectacular photos. I have learned so much about my camera. No more auto settings for me! Not only did we learn so much about our cameras but also about Edinbrough. Do not be fooled by other tour opportunities that cost less. This is the real deal... More

I booked this tour with the hope of being able to take great photos of my trip around Europe. The tour absolutely delivered on its promises of taking great photos and more. James is obviously passionate about his craft and this shows through in his tours. On the day of my tour, I was the the only person who had... More

I was on James’ tour in February of this year. James puts you at ease with your SLR manual settings and gives feedback on shots taken in real time so you can do a retake there and then - I left with some great shots of Edinburgh that I would not have gotten without the tour. We met early and... More

Yes, I was one of "those" people who has a DSLR but always used it in Auto mode. However, after this tour, I not only saw and took some great shots of the beautiful Edinburgh, but I also gained the confidence to step away from the limited Auto mode and plunge into the creative and exciting world of manual photography!... Lucky enough to have got on James Christie's photo trip friday 18th August. I can say right away that this was an awakening for me as far as the photography bit is concerned. Great input on compostion and the use of manual mode. As James would say himself "The penny har dropped for me" I have used his tips to... More

I recently did a photography tour with James, and it was great. I've done a couple of other photography tours, and James was definitely the most technical instructor I've had. He managed to teach us (a small group of 2) how to use our cameras in manual mode in a way that actually made sense to me!

I am not an arts kind of guy but my wife does and she booked our tour. I could spend at least an hour writing about how I thoroughly and completely enjoyed James' tour. But words and heck even pictures do the tour and the experience an injustice. It was awesome and educational. We were given plenty of information on... More
