James Christie is a world renowned and internationally published, professional photographer and he will take you on a four hour walking / photography tour around all the major attractions in Edinburgh's vibrant and famous historic Old Town. Edinburgh Photography Tours were established in 2010, the first photography tour of its kind anywhere in the world. We work very hard to ensure our clients have a first class experience on our tours and we continue to strive for excellence every day.

The tours start at 10am daily (Monday - Sunday) and last approximately 4 to 5 hours. I booked this tour as a gift for my Girlfriend who loves photography and decided that I’d come along to keep her company. I previously had no interest in photography and would identify myself as one of the least talented photographers to ever walk the planet. As such I wasn’t personally expecting to gain much from the tour. However, as... More

I met up with James and one other photographer on top of Calton Hill on a blustery Wednesday a couple of weeks ago. We spent an enjoyable wander around Edinburgh as James gave a fantastic overview of the essentials of creating a photo. I've been a photographer now for several years, and his ability to break what can be a... More

Despite the wind, snow and cold, James Christie provided us a memorable tour and a fantastic series of photography lessons. I can't thank James enough for explaining the functions of my SLR camera in understandable, concrete terms and then apply these lessons in a wide variety of settings. I also enjoyed how he explained human nature will get in the... More

I was only in town for 2 days and this caught my eye. James was a wonderful guide and I had the luck of being one out of two people in the group if you can call it a group. He was very knowledgeable about the city and made me enjoy photography even more than when I started. Photography has... More

Despite the damp drizzle, we delightful day with James Christie in January 2016. This is an ideal tour for people in our situation: enthusiastic “hobbyist” photographers who would spend a day walking about with a real pro. It was a combination historical walking tour and camera technique class. James has carefully constructed his syllabus around approximately 10 “shots”. Ten doesn’t... More

It was a cold, wet and windy day and my first visit to Edinburgh but I had a great time on James' tour. I thought it would be a good way to see the city as well as enjoy learning a little more about photography and I wasn't disappointed. James was knowledgeable not only about photography but this amazing city... More

James not only demystifies camera settings and composition- enabling greater freedom and satisfaction in photography, but also brings the city to life and is a really nice, enjoyable person. I've been on a few tours in my years and a few photography tours. His was the most enjoyable and informative and inspiring I've been on by a long way.

I was bought this private lesson as a gift after doing the group tour. What a fantastic learning experience it turned into. James’s enthusiasm and professionalism for teaching photography is outstanding and he explains everything to you on a level that can be clearly understood. From different camera techniques to advice on what equipment to buy, if you really enjoy... More

My husband and I joined James for a five hour tour on Friday and it was the highlight of our trip. The walk was user friendly, no mountains to climb here and James had numerous stops built in for photo shots, history updates and the sharing of current events. Each of his photo stops were designed to teach a specific... More
