Owner description: Established in 2010, Edinburgh Photography Tours is the number one ranked tour in Edinburgh, all of Scotland and the number one ranked photography tour in Europe. James Christie is a world renowned and internationally published, professional photographer and he will take you on a four hour walking / photography tour around all the major attractions in Edinburgh's vibrant and famous historic Old Town. Edinburgh Photography Tours Limited have recently been accredited with an "excellent standard" grading by Visit Scotland, Scotland's national tourist board. In addition we have just been awarded TripAdvisor's prestigious Certificate Of Excellence for the year 2014, our third year in a row winning this award. We are also ranked as number one of all tours in Edinburgh by USA today. James Christie has established himself as one of the leading photographic instructors in the world with plaudits from all over the globe. As a native of Edinburgh, James will provide an historical account of each attraction visited. His goal is to help you get the best from your camera (SLR, DSLR, Bridge, Compact, even your smart-phone) and show you how to compose professional, iconic shots of Edinburgh. If your camera has the ability to shoot in manual mode, James is confident that after four hours with him, you will never go back to any of the programmable modes ever again. James shows you how to take each photograph and guarantees that each participant will take home professional, iconic images of Edinburgh that can be displayed and enjoyed for many years to come. The tours are aimed at all levels of photographer, from absolute beginner to experienced professional. James does not use confusing jargon, preferring to explain things in a simple to understand manner. James is friendly, patient, polite and encouraging. Edinburgh Photography Tours were established in 2010 and have been operating successfully for four years. We work very hard to ensure our clients have a first class experience on our tours and we continue to strive for excellence every day. The tours start at 10am daily (Monday - Saturday) and last approximately 4 to 5 hours. The cost of the tour is £50 (with a maximum of 10 participants per tour) or a four hour One-To-One session can be booked for £400 (Please e-mail James for further details). Please note: Our Tours always go ahead whether we have one person booked or the maximum of ten people. Tours start in front of the National Monument on Calton Hill at the east end of Princes Street, access can be gained from Waterloo Place and you will always be tutored by James Christie.

My brother booked this tour for my birthday. We are both keen armature photographers but I never venture away from the auto setting. Having spent 4 hours on a one to one basis with James, I can now assure my brother and James I will not be returning to the auto mode again. The tour was fantastic, James was easy... More

My tour with James was very helpful for me as a photographer and informative as a tourist. He helped me finally make the move towards shooting manual with some very handy rules of thumb. He is extremely passionate about photography, helping others improve, and seeing them make progress long after the tour is complete.

I could write some lines here, telling everyone about how this tour is amazing, but I'm not going to. What I believe makes justice to the tour and James is the photo I'm uploading. I took that photo the day after going on James tour. I used a couple of his tips on this one.

This was the thing I kept saying throughout the 4 hour tour with James Christie. I can echo Cowsie's comments (I am the Scott) because it was a fantastic experience. From helping me get the best from my DSLR, explaining the ins and outs of white balance, ISO, shutter speeds, aperture sizes, focal lengths, etc, etc to interesting anecdotes and... More

Having read Tripadvisor reviews of James' photography course / tour whilst looking for a ghost tour in Edinburgh for my children, I decided that I REALLY needed to do this tour so we rearranged our travel plans and booked it. My day got off to a bad start as I realised I was going to be a bit late for... More

Last year I was lucky enough to go on James group tour. It was inspirational and my camera and I have not looked back! This week I spent an amazing day with James having a one to one lesson. You can read books and magazines but nothing is quite the same as actually getting out there and doing it. James... More

I recently had the pleasure of attending James Christie's photo tour. I was impressed by James' ability to teach as well as his knowledge of Edinburgh history. The tour can be taken by people of all levels: beginner, intermediate or advanced. To get the most of the tour, have a camera that has adjustable specs (aperture, ISO, white balance etc.).... More

My other half booked me on this tour for a birthday gift and I have to say I'm so glad she did. Not only did I learn so much more about what I could achieve with my camera but I also had another historical lesson on this beautiful city and its past... Every day is a school day! From learning...
