A native of Edinburgh, James will provide an historical account of each attraction visited. His goal is to help you get the best from your camera and show you how to compose professional shots. If your camera has the ability to shoot in manual mode, James is confident that after four hours with him, you will never go back to any of the programmable modes ever again. James shows you how to take each photograph and guarantees that each participant will take home professional looking images that can be displayed and enjoyed for many years to come. The tours are aimed at all levels of photographer, from absolute beginner to experienced professional. James does not use confusing jargon, preferring to explain things in a simple to understand manner. James is friendly, polite and encouraging. The tours start at 10am daily (Monday - Saturday) and last approximately 4 hours. Edinburgh Photography Tours were established in 2010 and have been operating successfully for four years. As with all great ideas, you will always find less creative people try to imitate a successful company. Please do not confuse our company with cheap imitations. We work very hard to ensure our clients have a first class experience on our tours and we continue to strive for excellence every day. « less

What a great way to reacquaint myself with my home city! I booked this tour as I am an Edinburgh girl now living in Melbourne and I wanted some iconic shots of my home city. It certainly came up with the goods! James is passionate about both Edinburgh and photography and this tour provided the best of both. His tuition... More

I thought long and hard about being the first three star review but i really can't place this any higher than average. For a 5 start photography tour I'd want a comprehensive list of items to bring other than just bring your camera. I happen to have a dslr and on the day of my walk I had a 70-200mm... More

Before I started the photo tour with James, I never took my camera off of the automatic settings. I am definitely a beginner photographer. Our tour started on the top of Calton Hill in Edinburgh where I learned how to take photos of the National Monument. We walked down the hill with stops at several other monuments, historical buildings, the... More

On Sunday 20th July 2014 I had a wonderful 4hr one to one session with James in Edinburgh. What a fantastic 4 hrs. James is a kind and meticulous teacher who is able to break things down to a digestable format for anyone to learn and enjoy photography, he has a unique way of enabling you to be very confident... Really enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about my camera and even about the city I live in. Feel way more confident using manual mode and learned so much about composition!

My husband and I met James for the tour 2 hours after we landed in Edinburgh. We were a little worried about jet lag, but those worries soon subsided because James is such an engaging guide/instructor. Neither of us have much experience with photography - I had not taken a single picture with my fancy DSLR and my husband was... More

I was lucky enough to be the only person who booked for the day. I learned so much. I had a new camera I was learning to use and James was very helpful. He demonstrated the skills on his camera and I tried to duplicate on mine. We covered several miles as we went to his favorite spots. I learned... More

I unequivocally recommend James' tour. Not only will you learn more about photography, you will be shown a couple of sneaky spots for taking superb pictures of Edinburgh (my family now think i'm a pro). You will learn some facts about yourself (how unobservant you REALLY are) and some quirky and interesting facts about Edinburgh. It really is two tours... More

Fantastic tour. James gives you incredible insights of a world renowned and acclaimed photographer, in a manner that is easy to understand and apply for all skill levels, including those of us who are elementary users. My family has been inspired to apply our new found skills. I doubt we ever use the green auto setting ever again. Spectacular photos... More

I have lived in Edinburgh for 12 years and been interested in photography for 20 years. In this tour I learnt lots of things I didn't know about Edinburgh but more importantly for me I learnt more about photography in the 4 hours with James than I have in the last 20 years of reading manuals, magazines and taking hundreds...
