A native of Edinburgh, James will provide an historical account of each attraction visited. His goal is to help you get the best from your camera and show you how to compose professional shots. If your camera has the ability to shoot in manual mode, James is confident that after four hours with him, you will never go back to any of the programmable modes ever again. James shows you how to take each photograph and guarantees that each participant will take home professional looking images that can be displayed and enjoyed for many years to come. The tours are aimed at all levels of photographer, from absolute beginner to experienced professional. James does not use confusing jargon, preferring to explain things in a simple to understand manner. James is friendly, polite and encouraging. The tours start at 10am daily (Monday - Saturday) and last approximately 4 hours. Edinburgh Photography Tours were established in 2010 and have been operating successfully for four years. As with all great ideas, you will always find less creative people try to imitate a successful company. Please do not confuse our company with cheap imitations. We work very hard to ensure our clients have a first class experience on our tours and we continue to strive for excellence every day. « less

Now if James Christie could just clone himself and make himself available in all the top city destinations around the world, the world would be a better place! For tourists visiting Edinburgh, count yourself lucky that he is here. We need him in Florence, Barcelona, New York etc I've lived here for 29 years but for amateur-photographer-tourists visiting the city... More

What a hoot! My brother, sister-in-law and I spent a truly enjoyable day with James Christie, where we learned how to doff our dependency on the automatic settings of our digital SLRs, and spot, compose and capture really amazing photos. James was firm in his instruction, hilarious in his storytelling, and genuine in his praise when you finally got the... More

I did this tour on Monday 14th April and totally loved the experience. We started on Calton Hill and I was pretty nervous as I'd got a bridge camera at Christmas and had never taken it off automatic settings. I learn much better through practical experience and when shown - and this totally worked for me. James is an excellent... More

It's a real pleasure to be taught by someone at the top of his game. James is a great teacher with a wealth of experience to share. The tour is excellent value, not least because you finally make proper use of your camera and come away with skills that will last a lifetime of snapping and showing off to your... More

I learned so much on this tour - not just about how to step away from 'auto' mode on my camera (which I was a slave to!) but also about Edinburgh. James is a very accomplished photographer and also a natural teacher. His enthusiasm for photography in contagious! This tour has made me much more confident in using manual settings... More

I describe myself as an enthusiastic amateur photographer and this tour was fun, educational and informative. It was a thoroughly engrossing experience where I really learned about using my camera in the manual setting. James is an excellent photographer and enthusiastic tour guide that brought many places in Edinburgh alive. I have lived in Edinburgh for all my 60 years,... More

Not only did I learn a lot about photography but I learned a lot about Edinburgh. James discussed the various settings to use for correct exposure and showed and discussed how to improve your composition to get the best photographs from your camera. On the walk around Edinburgh I learned a lot of things about the city I didn't know... More

I thoroughly enjoyed myself on the Edinburgh Photography Tour on so many different levels. It's first and foremost about photography and getting to grips with your camera and excels in this regard. It's also a very interesting historic tour of Edinburgh which will appeal to locals and tourists alike. As a local, I realised how little I knew of the... More

Had a great day in Edinburgh with James Christie. Armed with my new camera and no knowledge I thoroughly enjoyed the tour around my home town and learnt how to go from 'auto' to 'manual' on my camera. James is very knowledgable and so enthusiastic - a must for visitors and locals alike.

Had a great day out in Edinburgh with James, and I finally understand now how to get my camera to take good pictures in different lighting conditions! We had a lot of fun taking some iconic shots of Edinburgh sites and even some more artistic abstract photography. My trip photos are great, and I'm now confident enough to shoot in... More
