Of course its not a kids museum, and they have SO MUCH in there. Best of all - its free! Kids discovery areas in all sectors, and if you are spending the day, I recommend going downstairs to floor 0 first - they have Art Cart. Kids can draw and color - then find the items they colored within the... more

We (my parents, sons 8&10 and me) visited this museum on a very wet day last week whilst on holiday in Edinburgh and thoroughly enjoyed it - and amazingly was absolutely free! We spent around 5 hours the first day, and my sons asked to go back the following day and we spent another 2 hours and we only managed... more

The National Museum of Scotland is a must for any and every visitor in Edinburgh. The contemporary building at the corner of George IV Bridge and Chambers Street houses a wide range of exhibits about Scottish history from the earlier days of human evidence of occupation up to the 21st century. There are lots of objects, and themes dealt with... more

This museum had a lot of art, which i'm not into. But my fiancee loved it, he really did. It's presented well and love the location. All in all, a great hour or two in the Museum and having coffee near the green! more

I really enjoyed this. It's an interesting modern building in its own right. The content is well presented and tells you loads about Scotland and its past. It's on many floors with a fast lift and has a neat cafe, large childrens area and shop. I found it particularly interesting in that I've recently started reading up about Britains history... more

The museum of Scotland is the new museum attached to the Victorian Royal Museum. Anything to do with Scotland is in the New Museum, including Dolly The Sheep. The Older building is a more traditional museum filled with everything the British Empire could get its hands on. Stuffed Animals, Geology, Egypt, Engineering etc.etc.etc. They are fantastic and FREE! There is... more

It's great to see a public museum that has had so much care (and funding it seems) lavished on it! I really could have spent longer there and the collections were incredibly broad, The museum had also taken care to include children and there was a good cafe and restaurant. the museum was also (amazingly!) free - I would much... more

The museum was fantastic. I didn't have time to see everything in it (who would, it is a huge museum), but there was something for everyone there. It's a great free rainy day activity, which is good because there are plenty of rainy days in Edinburgh. The layout is nice and you get a good chronological snapshot of the history... more

Found out about this one too late, so I only had time to give the first two floors a good look. Which is a good thing, because now I have a valid excuse to go back to Edinburgh (to see the rest!) This quite a collection they have here. There was a modest exhibit about the geology and biology of... more

This is a wonderful museum on many levels. We really wish that we'd had more time to spend in it. The building itself is a work of architectural art. Each level of the building traces a particular era in Scotland's history. The sheer volume of fascinating historical artifacts is astonishing. There is even a free audio guide (we didn't have... more
