I really enjoyed the Palace. We got the audio guides and found them very well done - informative and entertaining. They take you through the courtyard, to the State rooms and then to Mary, Queen of Scots rooms, which were my favorite. I thought Mary's rooms were amazing. Although the price of admission is a bit steep, Holyrood is still an interesting property. I am surprised others rated this so well. I thought the rooms were sparsely decorated - several of the rooms held nothing but chairs and nice paintings. The guide was very enthusiastic, often hinted of the very colourful events and lives of the people that lived there. It rubbed off on us. The palace doesn't quite fit with what you would expect of royalty, but its beautiful, with old wooden floors, and secret passageways.
