This is the Queen's residence when in Southern Scotland, Balmoral being her Northern Scotland home. It was fun to walk down the halls knowing she, and many monarchs before her took these same steps. Of course, you can't see many of the rooms that the royal family actually uses. The dining room, and picture gallery are really the only two... more

We thought this castle was a great value for the money. It was beautiful and well-preserved. The 10 GBP charge included an audio tour, and we spent almost 2 hours exploring. It's interesting to see and hear the history of Mary Queen of Scots and to walk through the beautiful gardens. There was a great exhibit at the end too... more

We attended a tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse and were absolutely fascinated by the depth of knowledge of our guide as he (in tartan troosers!) led us around the palace explaining its history, the famous (or infamous) characters that once resided there and how the palace is still used today. It's a little quieter than the always-packed Edinburgh Castle... more

It's a beautiful palace with lots of history & historic artifacts and furniture. At £10, it's quite pricey though. more

I was really pleased that we could find the time to visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Personally, I think this is a even much more interesting site to visit than Edinburgh Castle. Since this palace is the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty The Queen, everything is very well maintained and the palace is so beautifully decorated. Besides, this... more

We really enjoyed seeing inside the place where the queen stays when she visits Edinburgh. So much history inside these walls. more

If you've seen other palaces there isn't anything new in this one apart from Mary, Queen of Scots rooms. Do it if you have spare time but I wouldn't make time for it. If you intend to walk up Arthur's Seat you could take in the palace on the way up or back, as you have to pass it to... more

What a boring 'attraction'! This was the biggest waste of money on my entire trip around Europe/UK!!!! Entry was expensive, the grounds were closed and there was scaffolding around the outside of the palace. There were works happening all around, so you had to walk around workmen to see anything. You see very little inside too. The audio guide was... more

I really enjoyed the Palace. We got the audio guides and found them very well done - informative and entertaining. They take you through the courtyard, to the State rooms and then to Mary, Queen of Scots rooms, which were my favorite. I thought Mary's rooms were amazing. Afterward we toured the ruins of the Abbey - such a shame... more
