We took the garden tour and learned all kinds of neat things about Holyrood's history, the royal family and the grounds. The guide was excellent and the tour was only 30-40 minutes, just enough.

We paid extra for our 48hours bus pass to get entry into the palace, but due to someone important visiting in a week or so, entry was reduce to learing through the railings. No refund or reduction on our £43 tickets let it down. It would have been an extra added wow for out trip.

have been 5 or 6 times and I like the atmosphere, the presentation and feeling of real history. Grounds are great. Some good guides as well.

The palace looks a little forbidding on the outside but is magnificent inside. It was great to see the private chambers of Mary, Queen of Scots, the numerous works of art and the sumptuous Georgian and Regency interiors. This is a real must-see when visiting Scotland. The abbey ruins are also beautiful and very evocative of the medieval past.

Holyrood Palace was interesting but we did not enjoy the Queen's Gallery.

Although the palace was closed due to an impending visit, we did visit the queens exhibition which was a display of many of the Royal treasures. The Fabergé egg brought tears to the eyes it was so beautiful and the story behind it so moving.

What a treat for your eyes. Lots to see and displays were well presented. It's the real thing when they say the Royalty of the UK stay here. We were there when Prince Charles and Camille entered the gates....of course the Palace was closed when they stayed there....but opened 2 days later when they left. Recommended.
