Having an interest in History i was looking forward to this tour of Mark King's Close, however, i was greatly disappointed!! There's not really much to see and the tour is stretched out to last over an hour. You fnd yourself standing in a group of about 20 people twiddling yor thumbs while the guide rambles on through an obviously... more

A trip to Mary King's Close is well worth the visit. Mary King's Close is one of the steep closes which used to line the Royal Mile of Edinburgh, of which Advocate's Close is perhaps the best preserved above ground. The tour takes you down beneath the City Chambers which were built in the mid 1700's right on top of... more

Hi, I visited Mary King's Close in October of 2006. It was a very interesting look at how people lived hundreds of years ago. There may not have been much to see, but the real point of the place is to get a feel for how things were back then and I think they succeeded nicely! The uneven floors, cobblestone... more

Hi all, Being a born and bred edimburger I have recently returned from the Mary kings close tour of the old underground streets of edinburgh. I was having visitors to stay from England so thought this may be a good way of spending an hour. How wrong I was!!!! This was possibly the biggest waste of £10 per head I... more

I agree with the other reviewers that it wasn't an overwhelming amazing experience. Still I really enjoyed the tour. It was very fascinating to get a glimpse of what living in those conditions would have been like. It was probably a bit pricey for the experience but overall I am glad I went to see it and would still recommend... more

The only word which comes to mind to describe this tour is embarrassing. I was embarrassed for the poor guides who try hard to make the tour interesting but can only go through the motions. This was the most pathetic utter rip off that I have ever been subjected to. It is a sad reflection on the Scottish tourist Board... more

I visited the Real Mary King's Close with my husband and relatives back in October 2007. I have to agree with the other reviewer's who said this was a tourist rip off. The only thing interesting about it was the external architecture, which you can see from the outside anyway if you walk up and down the Mount. You can... more

I live in Edinburgh and had always meant to do this tour based on the Scottish Tourist Office award as a '5 Star Attraction' and took the opportunity when my mum and dad were visiting. I was embarrased by this tour - it is simply a tourist rip off (£9 per ticket @ Nov 07 prices) and there really is... more
