I had visited Mary King's close about 30 years, before it became a tourist attraction. Then you had to walk through a busy office to a door into another world. Before returning this week I was worried it might have dumbed down. No worries, as all the props, and well scripted talks, helped bring the vaults to life. It is... More

My son and I visited here on 14th Feb. Booked our tickets for the 6pm tour guide by Mel (aka Servant girl Annie). The ease and informative way she conducted the hour long tour was very impressive!! She really drew us into the history of the place and made it a very enjoyable experience for both of us! Especially for... More

I am glad we did this tour. It wasn't the most exciting thing in the world but it was wonderful to be able to visit the apartments under the city. Although much of it is gone the tour did a wonderful job in describing how it would have been. Just being able to walk on the steep steps of the... More

Expensive tour that needed something of more substance then a very amiable, entertaining and extremely knowledgeable Ernest [ from the Netherlands ] our Real Mary's Close Tour Guard to rescue it. Mary's Close has the potential location and historical provenance to be a real show stopper but unfortunately your left with an average experience. Having said that there where some clever... More

This was brilliant value for money. Our tour guide was excellent - she was enthusiastic, funny and very knowledgeable. It was a young, blonde haired, Scottish lady and I think she said her character name began with an 'M' (sorry I've forgotten her name). The your was really interesting, it crazy to believe people used to live there was some... More

I have visited here now four time and each time is mesmerizing thanks in part to the brilliant guides. Am starting a collection of photo's, a great souvenir of each visit. I highly recommend a visit to Mary King's Close when in Edinburgh.

Mary kings close was recommended to us before our trip to Edinburgh and it didn't disappoint. We went on an early tour so getting a ticket wasn't a problem although I do feel they do squeeze a few to many people into each tour. Our guide was Chris T who was informative and funny while trying to involve everyone in... More

I'm sorry to say was very dissatisfied with this especially given the cost. A few empty rooms. There were a couple of rooms with a couple of things in. I must say the guide "Chris T" was excellent and tried to keep our interest reciting the various stories.

We are disappointed to read your review and would have been happy to discuss the further details with you at the time of your visit. We try to keep our attraction authentic and historically factual by allowing guests to visit the Close in the condition that the residents lived and used it in the 1600s, using the real stories of... My family of five (two adults and three teenagers) really enjoyed this informative and authentic tour of life in old Edinburgh. It offers a tangible experience that is fascinating and fun. James was a great tour guide - definitely a must do!

Firstly you cant take pictures but you can buy the one they take. I just found it boring walking from empty room to empty room. The odd room had some props in great! Next seated to watch some video (like a school trip) there was 20 people in our group and think thats too many. Did we get value for... More

It is disappointing for us to hear you did not enjoy your visit to the Close and would encourage visitors to speak to our team members at the time of their visit should they have concerns. Our attraction is a historical site and uses costumed character guides to recreate the stories from Edinburgh's past. We have not used many props... More
