This place is just so weird but wonderful...I loved it! The prices are brilliant, especially for students. We only went for drinks at a quiet time, but I definitely want to go back when it's busy. And yes, you did see the sign for the toilets in the correct place. And yes, you will probably go into the wrong one... More

Pub is great and atmosphere was ok. But the staff are all rude, patronising and obnoxious! Could not have been more disappointed! Prices were ok for Edinburgh! But the staff were just a joke! There were 9 of us spending a lot of money and will NEVER be back!

Me and my friends went here for a drink and ended up having lunch as the smells were amazing. Food was great and my friends had a cocktail pitcher which they said they loved. Would def return here.

I LOVELOVELOVE Eerie pubs! I miss the old Ben Crouches Tavern in London so I was thrilled to see this on my travels in Edinburgh. Staff were really friendly and the food was delish! I love the gothic, creepy surroundings. Finding the toilets in the bookcase was funny but after going into the ladies I almost wished I hadn't bothered,... More

During our trip to Scotland, me and my friend we're looking for somewhere cool to eat and at time same time save some money for the days after. Spotted this pub and its lunch deal by chance. For £8 you get to choose from a list of meals for two and we had the chance to eat some simple but... More

I used to love this place. The décor, staff and food were tops and always had a nice buzz about it. I visited last week for the first time in ages, what a disappointment. The staff were rude, tables were dirty (was going to order food but didn't bother) and the toilets were disgusting. Bring back the good old days!

I loved the decor of this bar and my husband knows me well. The bar looks great and has a good atmosphere where everyone seemed to be having a good time. It clearly stated on the door what ID was accepted so this was not a problem for me. As a girl of 25, I know to carry ID when... More

Came here with my friends for a cheap cocktail. Got one of 'the seven deadly sin' cocktails. I chose pride. It was quite nice, a bit on the sweet side for me, but okay for the money. But of a hassle trying to find the toilet though haha, it's behi a fake bookcase, you can easily see the doors, you... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
