I used to love this place. The décor, staff and food were tops and always had a nice buzz about it. I visited last week for the first time in ages, what a disappointment. The staff were rude, tables were dirty (was going to order food but didn't bother) and the toilets were disgusting. Bring back the good old days!

I loved the decor of this bar and my husband knows me well. The bar looks great and has a good atmosphere where everyone seemed to be having a good time. It clearly stated on the door what ID was accepted so this was not a problem for me. As a girl of 25, I know to carry ID when... More

Came here with my friends for a cheap cocktail. Got one of 'the seven deadly sin' cocktails. I chose pride. It was quite nice, a bit on the sweet side for me, but okay for the money. But of a hassle trying to find the toilet though haha, it's behi a fake bookcase, you can easily see the doors, you... More

As part of a day out with my wife we had been to the Playhouse to see Wicked so decided to book this for dinner afterwards, When we arrived I said I had a table booked for 6 o'clock only to be told they hadn't any bookings for the 3rd January, despite showing the confirmation booking I wasn't offered a... We visited on New Years Eve. The bar was very well staffed both in terms of the number of people they had on that night and their helpful and friendly attitude, for which they deserve full marks. Cocktails were good and the team were able to knock up a round of them quickly because they worked together. Food was standard... More

Horrible experience! Don't even bother to spend your time and money here. We ordered a so-called "ULTIMATE" Nachos which cost about 10 pounds. It turned out to be some miserable tortilla chips with hardly any cheese, one slice of jalapeños, and some dried veggies. It looked like some food that had been stored in the kitchen for days then been... More

Have visited this pub twice in the last six weeks. Unusual décor, but adds to the atmosphere of the pub. A big choice of food on the menu at reasonable prices, and a good fast service. For the location it is in, drinks a lot cheaper than other pubs in that area.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
