We went on the City Tour in the green bus, and had a guide with a great sense of humour. We know Edinburgh well but this was our first tour, and we learned lots of new things and yet enjoyed seeing our favourite landmarks. We did feel that the price was a bit steep...£33 for a family ticket, but the... More

A great way to see Edinburgh by bus. We went for the 2 day ticket including the Castle, Holyrood Palace and the Royal Yacht Britannia which was excellent value and saved having to queue! The guides on the buses were very informative and funny!

We used the hop/on/off bus for our transportation to the Royal Yacht and the Botanical Gardens and the castle. It was perfect however they do not always stop at the spot marked on their map schedule so make sure you ask and pay attention to where you get off.

Very frequent running buses, visiting all major central attractions. Onboard information does not point out which stop is for what (other than the obvious Castle and Dynamtic Earth stops!). Ensure you follow the map for the stops!

It must be the best way to find out about a city on your first visit. Do the full tour then hop on and hop off. The guides are always very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful, and full marks to the drivers too. Our guide was Ros and the drivers Glen and Jimmy. Thank you all.

Just read a review about the majestic not having a guide or passengers not being told about headphones which is totally wrong. Both the driver and the visitor guide who let you on the bus at waverley say to all passengers when they board the bus, headphones on the right and maps on the left. And all passengers are told... We booked the tour online bagging a 10% discount. It was good value. The ticket we bought lasted for 24 hours. You can hop on and off as many times as you like. Great with the children to avoid traipsing around too much. Also got us to our hotel without paying for a taxi. There were 9 different language options... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
