It rained on us from the beginning of our tour until well past the end but Andrew made it fun in spite of the weather. Take a raincoat with a hood and go because the Highlands area is very pretty and feeding the cows well worth any inconvenience. We tipped what we thought a tour like that would normally cost... It was a great chance to discover the area where it is pretty hard to visit with public transportations. I found this tour online when I was searching a tour to Skye. We enjoyed the visit to Forth rail bridge, Stirling, Aberfoyle, Loch Katrine, the Trossachs and Winterfell. The best activity was seeing Coos and feeding them x) They are... More

Met Donald (or The Don as he prefers to be called) outside of the Deacon House Cafe, got us all on board and explained how they day was going to go. He gave a running commentary all day, with some Scottish music thrown in here and there, he's very knowledgeable about what he's talking about. we visited a lot of... More

A friend of mine recommended it,at first I thought it was something fishy (who offers a free tour, relying only on tips ??), but I booked a seat anyway. My first impression was from the easy boarding location (right in the heart of the old town), then of Andrew-our guide for the day - his hospitality and welcoming on-board got... More

We attended this tour early of May 2015. It was a great day out from Edinburgh. Though, it was raining all day. Our tour guide, Andrew, shared us very informative knowledges. He was very entertaining, full of service mind. I and my friends did enjoy this 1 day trip to Scottish Highlands. More importantly, it's a free tour. No fix... More

Despite the unpredictable weather - it rained quite heavily in the afternoon - I had a wonderful time. The tourists on the bus were very friendly, so we had a good group. Our guide was Andrew who kept us awake with his humorous stories. Despite, the weather.. Andrew tried to keep our spirits up which I really appreciated. It's too... More

My husband and I took the Free Highlands tour on April 27. It was a great trip. We stopped at the Forth Bridge, Wallace monument, a photo op outside of Stirling Castle, Aberfoyle for lunch, saw the Hairy Coos, stopped at Loch Katrine and Doane Castle. A super long day, but excellent. Andrew was our guide and he gave a... More

This family trip involved my Mom (91), my sister (61), myself (51) and my daughter (21). Everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Donald was amazingly knowledgeable about his country, his heritage and Scottish history. Being on the tour was not just a passive learning experience, it was very engaging and we felt like we were part of this culture... More

It was a cold wet Tuesday, and with some trepidation we made our way to the meeting point. Well we should not have worried at all. Our guide, Andrew soon brightened up everyone's mood. Little stories here and there, insights into places I have read about but never visited. All in all a really good day out fully of stories... More

An absolute must do in Scotland. Not only do you get to see such wonderful sites but with a tour guide like Donald you get a genuine feel for Scottish culture. Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
