I booked this trip for going on 24/7. Dougie was the guide tourist who explained us many things about Scotland. He really was very professional. Tour took 9 hours and we could enjoy it! We visited some wonderful places such lakes, castles and the country with lovelies hairy coos... I strongly recommend this tour everybody interested in visiting Scotland. It... More

The mountains are lovely and a tour of the area is well worth the travel time and distance. Great service and lovely cows. Gorgeous sheep farm, rock walls, green meadows. Stopped in Valley of Glenco where the Campbells slaughtered the House of MacDonald.

This tour is great if you want to see some lovely scenery outside of Edinburgh. Pros: You pay at the end how much you think the tour is worth (and make sure you do actually tip). Feeding the hairy coos is a lot of fun and the views where you stop are stunning.. The stop in Aberfoyle was great. Food... More

Thanks for your kind comments and positive review of our tour, although I'm slightly baffled with the overall rating you've given it, since the content of your review is so positive, yet not consistent with the overall rating given? Thanks for taking the time out to give us your thoughts. Russell More

I took the Scottish Highlands tour and it was amazing. The scenery we drove through was stunning and our guide was very knowledgeable about Scottish history. If I'm ever in Scotland again I'll definitely be taking one of the other Hairy Coo tours!

This tour takes you to both beautiful and historic places, with lots of stops so you don't get tired of the long drive. Donald explained everything in full all along the way. I learned a lot of interesting facts about the Scottish history and culture.

Unfortunately I didn't book in advance, and all the dates were booked up for my time in Scotland. I took a chance, and luckily two (less lucky) people didn't show, and I was able to squeeze onboard. I wold definitely recommend this tour to anyone with only a short time in Edinburgh as a great way to see what the... More

Our guide, Dougie, was great. So much to see in comfort with time to explore with the guide and on our own. And the hairy coos were amazing. If you only have one day to leave the city, this is your trip.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
