In 7 days we could see a lot of things, thanks to the perfect organization of the trip. Drivers/guides were excellent, very helpful and interested in making us familiar with landscape, nature and history of Scotland. I would recommend it to anybody.

Just completed a day tour of the Highlands of Scotland returning via Perthshire. Our tour guide and driver Heather, was extremely informative, very friendly and a very competent driver. My wife and learnt more things about Scotland than we could have dreamed of if we had done the route taken by ourselves. Full marks to Heather!

The tour went above and beyond my expectations! Andy our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the local history of all the places that we passed and was always willing to to stop so we could take pictures of the beautiful scenery! Andy also had good recommendations of where to get good local food and would play Scottish music on... More

From the Highlands to the Isle of Skye our trip was phenomenal and memorable. Both Dougie and Heather were amazing guides with their respective personality. Dougie The warrior and Heavenly Heather made our trip a one of a kind adventure. We saw castles, cemeteries, ruines, hidden nature beauties and *hairy Cews* (Highland cows). Highly organized, the Highland Explorer Tours is... More

Very, very enjoyable, fun and informative day with Gary who was great. Sterling Castle was the highlight, full of history. Or maybe it was Glengoyne Distillery and the scotch whisky! Highly recommended.

This was a very questionable activity, when we first considered it...we didn't know if it would be too long and waste a day of our precious time in Edinburgh. We were so wrong! It proved to be a fascinating and relaxing day. Our guide could not have been more fun and had such a great sense of humor! The day... More

What a great introduction to Scotland! Even prior to the tour, the Highland Explorer people were very good at answering all our questions and helping us with our booking. Thanks to our wonderful guide, Heather, our multi-generational group of six people (ages 12-78!) had a fantastic three days viewing amazing vistas of the Scottish Highlands, legendary ruins and castles, charming... The north highlands are very beautiful. The highland explore tours made it very fun and safe travels for us. It was a 9 hour tour, but the time flew by so fast. Everything was excellent, on time, and the guide and the driver was very friendly. I highly recommend it.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
