Overall a great tour with a fantastic guide (Tony). We weren't sure what to expect from these types of tours, but were pleasantly surprised. I would certainly recommend a multi-day tour vice multiple single day tours. It was much much more relaxed and informative than a single day tour and a much smaller group size. Don't get me wrong, there... More

We took the day trip to Loch Ness. It was a great driving trip to see the highlands. The only disappointment was the way that they have worded the trip description on the website. At the time of booking, the website stated that there was a photo opportunity of Duone Castle - being huge Monty Python fans, this was the... More

This tour offered by Highland Explorer Tours exceeded all our expectations. Our tour guide and driver Tony enhanced our adventure with humour, his knowledge of fact and mythology and sensitivity towards all the guests' needs. Highly recommended. Stephen, Jenny and Sam.

I took a day-trip with Highland Explorers to see the Scottish Highlands. Our driver/guide, Heather, was incredibly informative and made the trip super-fun by mixing historic details with local and other music to add to the mood of the drive. I would recommend this one-day trip to anyone looking for some great sites and a fantastic drive through the Highlands.

Katie our tour guide was excellent, she made us laugh the whole way through, was really relatable and gave us snippits of history throughout that all tied in nicely at the end. She also gave us a run down of each site as we arrived and it was usually better than the tour guides inside. The 5 day Isle of... More

We just spent the last 5 days discovering the highlands with highland explorer and it was the most informative and impressive tour i have done in a long time. The hotels are awesome and in great locations. We were never rushed for time and thanks to our awesome tour leader katie, we didn't miss a thing. Her knowledge regarding the... More

My friend and had the most wonderful time!!!!! Highlands is a highlight in my travel history! For it's natural beauty and for all it holds of the Scotland past. Duffy was the best guide we could dream of. Lots of fun, lots of story/history telling. Very enthusiastic about Scotland!

Very interesting trip with amazing landscapes. The driver/guide was great, interesting and friendly : a very nice guy. The lunch was not very good neither generous. This tour is too fast to really enjoy the scottish countryside and lochs. It's fine if you only have a week-end but rent a car if you have more time.

The trip schedule is well planned so the number of activities is just optimal. It also allows some freedom for you to choose what to see, and what to do. Our guide, Duffy, is fabulous, he has guided us throughout the whole trip with his friendly and uplifting vibe, and is friendly and helpful. We all enjoyed the time spending... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
