Walking up from the car park the views of the castle and surrounding park are beautiful and the deer park area is lovely for a picnic but take a rubbish bag with you as there are no bins at the picnic benches beside the deer enclosure. A lot of renovation work is going on so be prepared for areas to... More

As a resident of Kilmarnock have visited this park several times. There is no entrance fee to the park, and the castle is free for local residents, although I believe there is a small fee for visitors and guided tours. Excellent, well kept local park and castle. Well worth a visit for anyone in the area. Lots for children including... More

Found this park on our way back down after our stay in Irvine. A fine park with plenty to do and see, a few lamas and deer add to the visit. Friendly staff in the information point and the walks around in the park made it a worthwhile stop off.

Only one room in the castle accessible; a display about the Napoleonic Wars. Sadly no access to the armoury rooms, the tapestry areas, the music displays or the castle dungeon which I remember as a school pupil! Finally the Shop also unfortunately closed in castle. I've not been in a few years so I felt disappointed at this. As for the... More

This is one of the ancestral homes of members of the Boyd clan, of which I am a descendent of, so it was already a bit special for me. The person giving the tour was well informed of Boyd history at this castle, and had a wonderful sense of humor dealing with "another" Boyd, especially one who is American.

Took my two year granddaughter here for the afternoon. Plenty to see deer, rabbits etc. She played on the swing and loved watching the deer. It was a bit muddy when we went so it was a bit awkward pushing her push chair.

Great place incorporating castle visit, play area for children, animals to see in pets area, hamsters peacocks , birds, pigs etc there are also some great walks if you have a dog. Can walk round for miles. There is a little café and visitor centre. There is also sometimes a ranger on who does activities with kids, teaching them about... More

my husband and I took our grandchildren here last year. We were given an informative tour of the castle and they were even allowed to dress up in costumes. There are deer in the grounds and birds and small animals. There is a very reasonably priced cafe on site. Great grounds for a lovely country walk. Entrance was free and... More
