A decent diversion. It's more a large diorama than a working mill, but does give you the flavor of the times.

Worth setting aside at least two hours to do this excellent museum justice. There is free parking around the back and the staff are very friendly and attentive. The displays are well thought through and the museum tries hard to balance both the workers side of the story and the mill owners. The museum gives an excellent display of jute... More

Liked the fact they took you through the each process from receiving the raw jute to the end product; showing the machinery and explaining each part. Upstairs houses an exhibition displaying and recounting the living conditions of the jute workers.

My cousin and I had a wonderful experience visiting Verdant Works yesterday. The highlight was meeting Lily Paterson and hearing her speak about her experiences working as a weaver in the jute mills from age 15. What a lovely lady who is so animated and sprightly for her ?years. (The staff there were too discreet to divulge her age! )... More

Went into this museum not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised :) Dummy characters setting scenes of life, video, interactive phones telling the tales. All done very well and informative! would recommend getting the double ticket for this and RRS Discovery, worth the visit.

Took the kids here on a rainy day. maybe it suffered from the comparisons with the Discovery (which was great), but it seemed a bit stuffy in comparison. there was a lot of interesting information about the jute industry, and some good films, and it was nice being able to wander around and pick out things as you liked. Not... More

I took my 9 year old granddaughter to The Verdant Works this week and we both found the experience very informative and interesting. The building itself creates an environment in which it is easy to imagine what it might have been like when in production. The story of jute and its impact on the lives of the people of Dundee... We spent an afternoon here and found the museum very interesting (especially as my great grandparents had worked in the textile industry in Dundee) It is well laid out and you can wander around at your own pace. Thanks to Lily in particular. She provided great insight as to how all the machines work and was just a delight to... More

My son and I dropped into the Café in the Verdant Works. We went there at 15.45 with the notion of having a snack. The menu was painfully inadequate. Soup and toasties were the only warm fare that was on offer. When I asked for a cheese and ham toastie I was told that they were not on as "It... More

Thank you for your review. The café at Verdant Works offers a limited choice of hot food and makes every effort to meet the needs of visitors. In this instance I can only apologise that the food offer was not as expected and we have now reviewed the times when the full hot food menu is available. We can only... More
