I've hesitated to review this place, because it is difficult to decide whether to give them a good review or bad! We visited with our grandchildren. The first problem was the fact that they were unable to accept credit cards, because there phone line was down. This meant we needed enough cash to pay our way in, and later in... More

This was a totally unexpected happy find. There were several guides there who were actually ex employees of the works. They were bursting with knowledge & very happy to share it with us, also to answer questions. One lady was starting up various machines for us to hear the volume of noise. One at a time was enough but imagine... More

This is one of the cleverest museum/heritage attractions I've ever been to. They've made an apparently simple topic (a jute mill) fascinating for all sorts of audiences by looking at it from lots of different perspectives. There's history, technology, geography, social history,..... Thoroughly enjoyable.

As we visited in school term time, our half term in surrey, it was very quiet, only about 3 other visitors. The cafe was very average, the food simple but overpriced for its cheap quality. However the museum was really interesting. The new area showing off machinery and the working conditions. We continued into the older part of the verdant... More

I have been to this little tea room on a number of occasions but felt that it was time to review it. A lovely little tea room after a superb museum trip. It's not a restaurant with a huge menu, just a perfect place for a quiet cuppa. Staff are always excellent and the soup and Sandwich deal is great... More

We had a guided tour of the Mill and had all the procedures of jute making explained to us in detail. The gentleman who took us round was very knowledgeable and made the whole experience very interesting. There are samples of jute in all the different stages of its production for the public to handle and get the feel of... More

We visited the Verdant Works today........not sure if it was just because we'd already visited the Discovery in Dundee today but this was rather a let down. We weren't really able to appreciate how this mill would have operated. ( think there was a search for kids but we weren't offered it......only saw a leaflet half way round!)

A trip back through time to when Dundee was a leader in the jute industry. What made this visit even more special was my friend, Chris Longmuir, used this location in her novel The Death Game. Seeing the workings of the mill were interesting and feeling the jute fibres after the washing and softening process was like feeling human hair... More
