excellent guide, loved the China, paintings, furniture, silver. It felt as though it was a house that had been a happy home over the years. It's a delight for the younger children with the huge play area. The grounds are lovely but mare sure you wear comfortable sensible walking shoes. There are also Ranger guides at a small fee. The... Bowhill House is an example of a country house doing everything it can to attract visitors. There are lots of things for children including games in the courtyard, a great adventure playground, soft play (additional fee) and 'ranger' activities in the school holidays (additional fee). There are lovely, easy loch walks and the grounds are stunning. You have these mostly... More

Visited for the day with my wife and one year old . We had a cheap tasty lunch in the canteen , my one year old loved the soft play and play ground and my wife and I enjoyed a lovely long walk with the pram . Good value at 4.50 each for entry too . If in the area... More

A huge estate with lots of interesting walks, a country house you can visit, a café and gift shop. If like us you're a family with young children however there is one reason and one reason only you'll have come here - the huge adventure playground! Can easily spend a couple of hours there. And every time we come they... More

My husband and I visited Bowhill on the way home from Hawick recently. Like everywhere else roundabout here, we received a very warm welcome from the gentleman at the ticket box to the tour guide. We even found an original wedding present in the gift shop. It was a bit sad to see we were the only people on the... More

We have just moved to the Borders. After a few not so great afternoon outs at other local attractions and national trust properties I found Bowhill via google and also heard a few recommendations about how great its play park was so we decided to check it out. We paid £4.50 for the gardens and access to the playpark (we... More

I am not a fan of going round country houses but this place is rather pleasing. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the grounds beautiful. The house is not much to look at on the outside but contains a wonderful collection of paintings and artefacts. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely place to visit, we recently went up with our daughter who will be two in August and she had a ball in the new park, lots of different things for them to explore. The house has lots of walks for all abilities to do from walks around the grounds to longer walks like the duchesses drive which is spectacular... More
