I am not terribly fond of grand country houses but this one is quite a bit special. The history of the family and the house is very interesting. The internal décor and furnishings are superb. But perhaps best of all are the incredible paintings, many of whom were produced by famous artists that even I have heard of. The paintings... More

As the Duke says in his preface to his beautifully produced guide book, this house is the spiritual home of the Scott family, Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry, its imposing size does nothing to dispel the feeling of a family home. Brilliant adventure playground for the kids and lots of amazing walks. The house was unfortunately closed but hope next time... More

Our guide, from Kent originally, gave us lots of information in a leisurely way about the Buccleuchs and their history which made the tour... More

Lovely walks, reasonably priced tea room, and an adventure playground with big enough slides and zip wires to even keep a 14 year old amused!!
