Our tour guide was able to explain why Melrose, Jedburgh, and Kelso Abbeys are all in ruins, from the Protestant reformation riots of the 1400s. Thanks for keeping them renovated so we can enjoy them. We love the architecture and history More

It was a really cold day when I visited but I was able to find sheltered spots to listen to the audio commentary which is excellent - you can go at your own pace and get additional information if you are interested in particular aspects. The museum across the road was OK too. More

We took about 3 hours to make our way through every corner of this abbey and the second site across the road which holds the museum. Well worth visiting the other abbeys walk abbeys- (Jedburgh, Dryburgh, Melrose and Kelso) as they are all linked historically and presently! Amazing that in such a seemingly remote area these abbeys thrived and so... More

Melrose Abbey - my kids age 5 and 3 love it. "Mummy, can we go and see Robert the Brewster?!". Combine with a trip to the playpark next to the Abbey and then a yummy ice-cream from the shop just across the road and you've got a half day trip sorted. More

The Abbey is right on the edge of town and I think the best of the border abbey's (although Dryburgh is a close second). The detail on the carving is amazing and its one of the most intact medieval ruins I have seen in the UK, giving you a real feel for what it must have looked like in its... More

This is a fantastic site to wander around, in the centre of the town. The abbey has Robert the Bruce heart in the grounds which is incredible if you are into your Scottish history. Don't miss the bagpipe playing pig looking onto the graveyard. More

Whether you're drawn to Melrose Abbey's romantic (eerie?) legend as the final resting place of the heart of Robert the Bruce or simply a fan of church architecture, you're certain to enjoy a stroll through the grounds here. Be sure to take a camera, as the ruins are quite picturesque. Spend some time searching for the bagpipe-playing pig or the... More
