Astonished by its sheer size on visiting it having viewed the tower from numerous ferries to and from the islands. The story of its history seems to bring the tower go life. We visited late in the day the sun was low in the sky, water so calm as to resemble glass, little boats, kayaks and the ferries all viewed... More

The view from the top is stunning, I would recommend driving to the car park, but the walk is doable

A hike up to McCaig's Tower is well worth the hills because the view of Oban and the harbor are amazing!

It is a bit of a stroll but well worth it when we got up there we had a pleasant surprise, there was a pipe band and Highland Dancers. To look over Oban whilst there is a pipe band playing was one of my most memorable experiences. Oban should be a place to visit and the History behind the McCraig... More

Itseems a bit of a hike, 164 steps approx, though you can drive to it. IIt's one of the best photo ops in oban with great views and the folly itself is interesting well worth a visit

Loved the architecture of the ruins and the view. The walk up the hill from Oban is steep, but take your time. It's worth it!

Unless you're feeling particularly athletic, drive up to the car park at the base of the tower! This is a very impressive folly which looks down over Oban. John McCaig was a wealthy banker who certainly left his mark on this part of Scotland. The views from the terrace are very impressive looking out across the Western Isles and even... More

This is an interesting structure that is now turned into a Park. There is a terrace on the opposite side of the entrance which provides a nice view of the city below. We went there at night and got a great view of the sunset.

It's worth the climb for the view alone! Interesting bit of Oban history and a lovely walk or place to sit and have a tea break and a picnic.

Exceptional structure atop Oban. Steps up are a real challenge, so taxi or car are a sensible option. The car park feeds into the central gardens, but watch for a small step onto the outer balcony area. Easy to look at the view and miss the step!
