While Rick Steves isn't keen on the view, I would definitely recommend the walk up to McCaig's Tower. While it's steep, it's fine for the, the active, and healthy older adults. It's a wanna-be-Roman ruin built in the 1900s and has a lovely garden and view over all of Oban and the bay. You'll notice the "ruins" as soon as... More

It is a bit of a hike to get up there on foot so we decided to drive, narrow roads going up to it lots of sharp bends. There is a small car park up there. Once you are there it looks amazing! A gentle walk around and then looking down over Oban with some amazing views, great to get... More

For a folly, this is cool. It's a bit of a hike; smart people with a car drive to,the top. But the views are incredible. Mull is close enough to touch, if not mull over, Lismore also is nearby.

This is worth a visit. Bit of a hike to get to it.. but after a hearty breakfast, it certainly burns of the calories..!! 😊😊 The views of Oban are stunning from every angle.. especially if your lucky enough to get a good day, like we've had. Take a look, but before you go.. read the legacy behind it.. INTERESTING.... More

Well worth the short sharp walk up the hill for both the views and seeing this incredible family monument. Quite surreal walking around it and great photo opportunities.

It is a steep 15 minute walk from the town centre (taking the steps which start from behind the Oban distillery) but once you get up there you will be rewarded with the magificent views over Oban. The history and architecture of McCaig's Tower and gardens are quite interesting and I would strongly recomend a visit. And best of all... More

We visited on 21st June 2015. Drove up pulpit rock and parked by the steps, short climb to the tower. Fabulous views from the walkway over Oban the harbor and surrounding areas. The gardens in the middle were well kept and tidy. Really worth the visit and free.

This is better referred to as McCaig's Folly. Neat partial reconstructed Imitation of the coliseum. Nice gardens within but best part is the walking route up thru the city of Oban to reach the "tower". You can meander past many lovely quaint back yard gardens and cute little cottages via a couple different routes up and down the hillside to... More
