I think that local museums are so important in that they are an Aladdin's cave of local artifacts and information that would just get overlooked in a larger national museum. Staffed entirely by volunteers who really know what they are talking about, this little museum in Oban is a wonderful attraction and very educational as well. As the name suggests,... More

It's a small museum but has plenty to see. Don't miss it. Friendly docents run the museum and are willing to interpret and explain the exhibits. Mostly related to Oban's part in WW2 which mostly means the Coastal Patrol seaplanes.

We had walked passed this museum on previous visits to Oban, so glad we finally decided to step inside. It is small (just two little rooms) but jam packed with items and information, mainly focused around the World Wars. As previous generations of my family are from Oban, I found it especially interesting. The two quizzes (adapted for different ages)... More

Very pleasant docents on duty. Free of charge. On the Oban waterfront. Jam- packed with memorabelia, uniforms, medals and so much more on the 1st and 2nd World War, donations from people who live in the area. Even a display on the Land Army. Really worth a visit.

We were pleased to meet an 'Oban Ambassador'. She was interested in our search and directed us to Oban library, which holds census records on microfilm. We accessed the hardcopy census index, which enabled selection of the right film and successful search back to 1841.

This is a small, volunteer-run museum which is free to enter. There is a mass of information to read which, personally, I found to be too much - a bit of information overload so I skipped a lot of it which is a shame really when a lot of work has gone into the research and displays. Perhaps a little... More

we visited this museum on a wet morning purely to get out of the rain for a while. but what a great surprise we had. the museum is only small but is full of interesting information about Oban and the area. we spent a very enjoyable morning studying the exhibits which were clearly labelled and varied in their content. well...
