Situated on the east side of the Kintyre Peninsula, the hamlet of Skipness and the castle ruins are well worth a visit. Built around the 13th century, the ruins are under some repair and command a great view across Kilbrannan Sound to Arran Isle. ref: http://www.knapdalepeople.com/castleskipness.htm Skipness' origins lie in the centuries of the MacSweens and Sween Castle. By 1300,... More

Skipness Castle commands the channel between Argyll and Northern Arran. One look at from the intact ramparts and you'll see how tricky it would be sneaking a long-boat past without being seen. The castle is well worth a clamber around, and there's also an intriguing ruined abbey around half a mile away, and that, along with the beach makes this... More

Great views from this small castle ruin. Free entry but maintained by Historic Scotland. A small cafe (independent from Historic Scotland) is right next door with the same great views of both mountains and the loch. Bathrooms at the cafe as well. More

The Seafood Cabin is sublime. The food is great, the price is more than right and the views are exceptional. Try the seafood platter --- PLEASE!!!! we had that plus some mussels and stuff sitting out underneath the cabin's veranda, it rained, the sun came out, it rained again. We didn't care. Two sheepdogs herded hens, geese and ducks under... More

the trip to the castle is nice and the views fabulous, but in keeping with sadly a lack of interest in tourists, the cabin that advertises lovely seafood is NOT open on a saturday! At the height of the summer season! Bizarre. Dont they want customers? Shame as its a great spot to eat on a summers day More

We went south from Tarbert on the west coast road to Campbelltown and then back up the narrow road on the east to Skipness. A warm summer day. The castle is an easy walk from the parking area and is great for adults and children. We climbed to the top with the grandkids and roamed everywhere. The castle is located... More
