Description: Visit this charming rustic beauty of a forerunner to the Industrial...
Visit this charming rustic beauty of a forerunner to the Industrial revolution. The rural corn mill, still run today by the gentle flow of Barry Burn, was the ancestor to today's food preparation processes and a myriad of complex technologies that sprung from simple water-wheels, gears, pulleys and belts. Enjoy the tranquility of this renewable and sustainable approach to work & food in bygone days. Listen to the splash of the wheel and the rumble of the mechanics as the building shakes itself into life. Tours explaining the significance of these mills and telling some of the tales and stories of those that worked in and around these hubs of community are offered and bookings can be made to see flour being ground.

This was a very enjoyable visit to a mill, still in working order, demonstrated by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. We live only about seven miles away and have passed the road end so many times...... We recommend a visit which not only explains the mill but informs on local history to young and not so young.

What a great visit we had - staff are lovely and make the whole experience come to life. The Mill has been preserved beautifully and run by a fully qualified miller. It also makes you realise what a fantastic job the National Trust do in the running of places like the Mill and how well trained their staff are. Highly... More

If your in the area don't miss this attraction. It's a National Trust Scotland property and well worth a visit. The staff will turn on the water wheel and give you a guided tour of the mill.

Tucked away in the valley of the Barry Burn you will find the mill, an oat mill, which was active till 1984. It gives you a good idea of how a water mill was constructed and worked in the 19th century. You can visit the mill itself and the circular kiln which is an unusual feature. The guided tours are... Took Dad there for fathers day and we weren't disappointed. As a farmer he loved seeing the mill working and reminiscing about how things were done in the past.A great day out.

Wonderful trip back in time.Great to see the machinery still working and flour being milled. The guide, who was so enthusiastic, brought the mill back to life and made the experience so much richer. The displays are well informed and the guide answered lots of questions. The location is absolutely lovely and it would have been a good idea to have... More

The Miller's tale was riveting. What I imagined would be a 5 minute visit was a wonderful history lesson told with wit and enthusiasm by the wonderful Irish miller.Marvellous to have the workings of the mill explained and to learn the origins of expressions now in common parlance like to show your mettle. Great way to spend an afternoon. We enjoyed every... More

I visited the mill yesterday as I had heard good reviews from a friend. The mill was easy to find, just a minutes drive outside Carnoustie. I wasn't disappointed, the mill is set in stunningly beautiful surrounds with a lovely walk, which leads to a small waterfall and loops around to bring you back to the sheep paddock and orchard....
