Visit this charming rustic beauty of a forerunner to the Industrial revolution. The rural corn mill, still run today by the gentle flow of Barry Burn, was the ancestor to today's food preparation processes and a myriad of complex technologies that sprung from simple water-wheels, gears, pulleys and belts.

Enjoy the tranquility of this renewable and sustainable approach to work & food in bygone days. Listen to the splash of the wheel and the rumble of the mechanics as the building shakes itself into life. Tours explaining the significance of these mills and telling some of the tales and stories of those that worked in and around these hubs of community are offered and bookings can be made to see flour being ground.

Complete working medieval mill looked after by a passionate miller who gives you an individual tour if you ask. Not only are the surroundings idyllic but the preservation and care of the machinery inside the mill is remarkable. Guided through the history of the mill you can get immersed in the atmosphere of how it used to be back in... More

Lovely setting. We took the tour as a family and it was fascinating, and if you are up to a walk afterwards, the surrounding area is very pretty.

Barry Mill is run by the National Trust of Scotland, and is certainly a unique property to visit. We were able to tour the mill which was given by Caroline. She did an absolutely fantastic presentation, taking us through the step by step process of how the grain was milled, as well as explaining the history of the mill. She... More

We went along to this as we were in the area and are NTS members without much expectation. The miller who did a fantastic tour complete with a fascinating history managed to engage both ourselves and the children, they spent the full 2 hours listening and learned so much. The miller was friendly, informative and encouraging allowing them to be... More

This was a very enjoyable visit to a mill, still in working order, demonstrated by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. We live only about seven miles away and have passed the road end so many times...... We recommend a visit which not only explains the mill but informs on local history to young and not so young.

What a great visit we had - staff are lovely and make the whole experience come to life. The Mill has been preserved beautifully and run by a fully qualified miller. It also makes you realise what a fantastic job the National Trust do in the running of places like the Mill and how well trained their staff are. Highly... More

If your in the area don't miss this attraction. It's a National Trust Scotland property and well worth a visit. The staff will turn on the water wheel and give you a guided tour of the mill.
