Craigievar sits on the side of a hill and draws the eye from the main road. Even more spectacular now it has been reharled in pink lime based harling. Inside and out it has been little touched since it was altered in 1610 to 1620 by Danzig Wiilie Forbes. Sadly the poor state of the roof 200 years ago meant... More

Such a pretty little castle. With homely rooms that made me want to move right in and kick off my shoes among the tartan sofas and antlers. The stairs are steep and skinny, and not for the faint hearted as the tour is guided for good reason. Our young guide himself offered a good yarn suitable for a variety of... More

The Pink Castle, which it is said inspired Walt Disney, stands in beautiful Cairngorm foothills and the drive there is a treat in itself. My guide, John, had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the building, it's contents, which are eclectic, and the fascinating family. The climb to the top is breathtaking in all senses but so worthwhile. There is no cafe... More

Visited this lovely National Trust property ,didn't do the tour as the stairs are very steep and didn't think I'd make it to the top.The staff in gift shop were very friendly and helpful.

We were lucky and had a guided tour to ourselves, the guide was excellent and you certainly get the feel of a genuine family home with all the original furniture and artefacts. A must if in the area.

We took our 3 young kids here for a visit. Visiting the inside is guided tour only and as we started a tour it was clear my kids weren't going to make it. We were set to leave when a wonderful man offered to take us on a speed tour. This worked out perfect, we were able to see the... More

I have been to this castle many times, my parent's use to take me there as child and I do love it as many other castle's. I was there last year with my husband and took the tour which I loved but my husband hated it, when it's interesting, he would listen but lose interest. So we walked round some... More

My husband and I had driven past this lovely pink structure on a number of occasions en route to visiting our daughter and her family and had always threatened to visit. Yesterday being Easter Sunday and a beautiful sunny day, we did just that. Together with our daughter, her husband and four children we spent a leisurely day wandering around... More

It was a little hard to find Craigievar Castle with the Google directions, which were wrong on both distances and directions for the turns. This is a pretty popular castle, so luckily there were attraction road signs. The maps in our Fodor's guidebook were helpful too. Craigievar has guided tours only, no wandering about on your own. At £12.50 per... More
