Stopped here in passing and I am so glad I did! The location is amazing and the weather was excellent too. It's quite a trek from the car park to the castle and there is quite a steep climb down to the beach and then up to the entrance but it's certainly worth the £5 entrance fee. More

The castle is situated on top of the cliffs near Stonehaven. We walked from Stonehaven to the castle by following a diversion as part of the usual clifftop walk was being repaired. I was glad that I had worn walking shoes as it is quite a walk but so worth it when you turn the corner and the castle comes... More

i was concerned that that this was a foggy Scotland day, so typical. My 22 year old daughter said, "Oh, this is the perfect time to be here." We head the place much to our selves and we wandered and explored all of the buildings and thought of how life might have been there then. We found the store room... More

Best seen on a bright or dry day, Dunnottar has a tragic and dramatic history and is of historical significance when it comes to protecting the Scottish Crown jewels from the English. If you're lucky, you may also get a piper setting the scene of what has got to be one of the more romantic and amazing sceneries Scotland has... More

We worked this castle into the itinerary based on the amazing pictures available in the guidebooks and on-line, and the actual castle exceeded the expectations. Moderate physical fitness is needed to negotiate the stairs down, up and through the castle. Once inside the ruins, your imagination will run wild at the place this once was. There is much to read... The Dunnottar castle ruins on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea is a monument to the scenic beauty present in Scotland. Very tranquil with just the sound of waves around you, it is a must have experience on your visit to the area. More

a must see when traveling through Scotland both for its historic importance and amazing setting - worth every penny. It will take you about an hour to visit the ruins. If you have more time at hand go down to the sea shore to get a view of the castle from a different angle. Would not recommend trying to get... More

Worth the effort on public transport from Aberdeen. Just be warned that the stairs back up require an effort! More

We visited this castle purely by chance but it was definitely worth it. This is a ruined castle on the cliffs so not a place for arm chair tourists! There's quite a walk and steep stairs but it is worth it since the castle and the views are breath taking. Please do yourself a favor and go, you won't regret... More
