I had no idea of the importance of the River Foyle and its important role during WWII. I also need not realize that it was so close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Another visitor must, lots of history behind this river, worth finding out about it. More fascinating than you would think, not just a strip of flowing water, it was a great benefit/asset to industry in and around Derry/Londonderry.

If you come to the city you can't avoid the river foyle. Steeped in history and divides the city, but it really does stink some days - especially near Domino's in the waterside.

We felt that the river was best viewed at night, especially overlooking it from the Peace Bridge! It is wide and beautiful, though I wouldn't try swimming it...Yikes! ;-)

Great place to tie up to and be in the city - also a nice area. That said the port staff and cafe where you pay are most unwelcoming on initial contact making Derry feel like somewhere you should avoid. HOWEVER the locals make up for it big time with a warm welcome. Do not let initial reactions put you... More

Walking along the River Foyle in Derry is a great way to spend some time. The Peace Bridge & downtown sights are accessible, and there are lovely flowers on the railings.

I always look forward to my walks by the river Foyle. Zit is extremely popular with the local population - jogging, walking the dog, the grandkids, night stroll to see the Peace Bridge illuminated and I could go on. There is always someone around so it's quite safe and easy to strike a conversation with someone. just love it!

Great riverside view (from the Atlantic Quay, where we stayed). Direct view of boats, water events, and it is fun to see the joggers and strollers who are drawn here. Nice view of Peace Bridge. Downside: visitors might be surprised to learn that some cafes along the river close relatively early. Luckily, there are restaurants, hotels and other establishments in... More

Strolling along the riverside in the sunshine doesn't get any better. The river is a focal point in the city and can be crossed on foot using the Peace Bridge. There are various activities available to do on the water including boat rides. The marina is a short distance away along Queens Quay.
