St Augustine's is a small church inside the city walls. It is open to visitors in the summer months. We visited on the European Heritage Open Day. It has a warm and welcoming interior. Although we did not explore the graveyard it many of the historic graves are documented. The Reverend Pat Storey from St Augustine's has been appointed the... More

The St. Augustine's Church in Londonderry/Derry is fairly small and tucked in the City Walls, but is actually very historical (and quite a beautiful church). The present church was built in 1872, but is on the site of St. Columba's monastery from 546 AD. There are historical signs inside and outside the cathedral, telling the story of St. Columba and... Wonderful little church comes as a surprise tucked into a corner on Derry's walls. This was in the same week as the rector was appointed as the first female bishop in Ireland.

When walking the Derry wall, one will encounter St Augustine's Church on the Bogside side of the city. The is a quaint little church set is a beautiful cemetery and garden and makes a wonderful stop on the walk. And a hidden secret - there is a loo! You have to ask the gift shop attendant where to find it.

Came across this old church on our walking tour of the walls. Very small but so interesting. Standing since the siege of Derry approx 1649. Packed with history and the adjoining churchyard was both fascinating, spooky, yet beautiful. Stop by when walking the walls.

Lesser known than St. Columb's, this place claims to be the site of Saint Columb/ Columba's first church in Derry. You'll get a warm welcome from the volunteers stationed inside the door. It's free!

Remember, it's closed on Sunday for services. Staff here were informative and so helpful. It's a church steeped in centuries of history, so take time there and walk around the cemetery, which is said to be in three layers

This is a small church, but it has a lovely graveyard and is in a very beautiful spot near the Walls. You have to go and think about it being connected to St Columba. An important piece of the jigsaw that creates the picture of Derry and its history.
