A street that I know well, with the Rocking Chair pub at the top. There are some significant history in this area and happenings. There are several interesting pubs along here, and at the top views over the Bogside. The traveller must decide for them selves about the features and history of this street. It is a pedestrian area to... More

During the day this street has some interesting shops as well as cafes. At night, things change. There is no shortage of popular pubs on this street. One pub in particular, located at the top of Waterloo Street seems to be a local favorite.

How many times have we walked up and down this street not really paying attention to somewhere that the tourists appreciate, we should get those maps they all seem to be looking at.

If you're a visitor to Derry, then Waterloo street is a must. There are plenty of independent shops selling everything from religious nick nacks to clothing. A few cafes and take outs as well as plenty or bars. If on a night out then waterloo street is for you with all bars offering live music nightly.

We went into the Rocking Chair for a drink after dinner. The small public bar was full of every-day people singing some traditional and some not so traditional songs. We grabbed a drink and joined in the chorus. One of the barmen - Dermott - made himself known to us & looked after us like we were long time locals.... More

Waterloo Street runs from William Street up to Butcher's Gate, and you won't be stuck for a pint, if you happen to find yourself on it. It has a total of six bars, all on the right hand side as you head up it. Starting with Tracy's, Peadar O'Donnell's, The Gweedore, The Dungloe, Bound for Boston, and finally The Rocking... More
