Easy going

Nice grounds, and fairly flat easy walk around the lake takes about 30-45 minutes or so at a slow pace - although there is longer routes.

Gorgeous summer day. Easy walk around the lake which is about 4km. There is maze which over looks the mournes moutains. Small Cafe and you can hire bikes and kayaks. Small entrance fee £5 and you keep your ticket can be used at other Forestry parks the same day.

Park is stunning lots of activities to do. Came with my daughter and nephew and they loved it extra nice as the sun was shinning and the park ranger we met (Frankie Toner ) was a pleasure to meet made the trip that little bit more enjoyable thank you 😀

Great day out, Fantastic trails in amazing setting. Seen a few red squirrels too. I'm not a major mountain biker but I thought this was a brilliant day out. We just stuck to the red trail and it was fine even if you haven't done any mountain biking before. We hired bike which was a little expensive at £20 per... More

Castlewellan Forest has it all. Castle, lake and backdrop of the beautiful Mourne mountains. Good mixture of walks. Walk around the lake gentle and very pleasant. Good trails to take you further into the forest and a steeper trail to give you a fabulous view over the whole area. Well worth a visit.

We came here to possibly see otters at the lake, and found the castle and arboretum to be enchanting. You cannot visit the castle which is now a conference centre, but just having it in your view is a lovely experience. Particularly interesting arboretum with redwoods and sequoias. Kayaking and cycling centre on-site. Will return.

We visited with our family from 5 to 80 and everyone was entertained whether by a short walk or the more adventurous of us on mountain bikes or canoe. The café is nice a little dated but cheap if you want something a bit better hold out for Hilyards by the entrance lodge
