Owner description: The house in which the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas was born and lived with his family for the first 23 years of his life. Enter Dylan Thomas Birthplace and you go back in time to when the Thomas family bought No 5 as a new house in 1914 just a few months before Dylan was born in the front bedroom. Soak up the atmosphere of the house in which he lived for 23 years and wrote two thirds of his published work The Dylan Thomas Birthplace is unique in that it allows you to stay in the house as a visitor. When you book the house you have exclusive use during your stay. The house has a growing reputation for introducing new literary and musical talent from both Wales and the rest of the world. The house is open for house tours every day at 11am / 1pm / 3pm and the relaxed journey takes you through the beautifully restored rooms to give you an insight into life in the Edwardian era and a perfect starting point to discover just how Dylan was inspired by "...this sea-town..." These tours generally last 1hr 15mins. Pre-booking is advisable as on occasion the house is required for filming, meetings and other purposes which will mean the inability to carry out house tours at times where advertised. We do of course, apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused in these instances. Pre-booking can be done by phone or email

Spent a fascinating hour and a half being guided around this house. Our guide was really well-briefed, knowledgable and enthusiastic - he brought the house to life! It was a delightful insight into Dylan Thomas' life in Swansea.

We visited the Dylan Thomas House, and nearby Cwmdonkin Park, in late September, while the exhibits at the Dylan Thomas Center were being prepared for re-opening on the centennial of his birth. It was a great find. No others were on the 1:00 tour that day; my traveling companion and I had the Curator of the house, Matthew Hughes, for... More

We visited this as part of a Dylan Thomas-athon! It is an excellent introduction to the life of Dylan Thomas, with a very knowledgable and engaged guide. The restoration of the house has been done with historical authenticity drawing on the writing of Dylan and his contemporaries. Definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in Dylan Thomas (or life in... More

Even if you are not a huge Dylan Thomas fan you cannot fail to be impressed by this wonderful tour which is both an insight into the life of the poet but also brings the social history of the early 20th century vibrantly to life. The house has been lovingly and authentically restored and there are no areas or items... More

Wonderful and inspirational. Going into the house was like going back into 1930s Swansea and we could almost feel the presence of the Thomas family with Dylan as a young man in his bedroom furiously writing his early poems and stories. Matt, the guide, is a great enthusiast and is very informative. Our tour lasted over 2hrs for which we... More

Had a very enjoyable visit to 5 Cwmdonkin Drive, it has been beautifully restored to the highest detail. Our host Geoff had a wonderful depth of knowledge, and brought the house and the Thomas family alive for us.

An exceptionally well thought through and beautifully immersive tour. Being a massive Dylan Thomas fan I never imagined I could possibly feel like one of the Thomas family (!), but walking around 5 Cwmdonkin Drive I felt as though Dylan was literally waiting around a corner, ready to say "hello". Matt, the guide, was extremely passionate about all things Dylan... More

When visiting a family member now living in Swansea we spent a day on a Dylan Thomas walk covering his birthplace, Cumdonkin Park and a welcome pint in the Uplands Tavern. His birthplace was amazing and the guide (Matt) spoke so knowledgeably and enthusiastically about the house, family and the circumstances of the period Dylan lived there we were all... More
