Description: The house in which the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas was born and lived...
The house in which the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas was born and lived with his family for the first 23 years of his life. Enter Dylan Thomas Birthplace and you go back in time to when the Thomas family bought No 5 as a new house in 1914 just a few months before Dylan was born in the front bedroom. Soak up the atmosphere of the house in which he lived for 23 years and wrote two thirds of his published work The Dylan Thomas Birthplace is unique in that it allows you to stay in the house as a visitor. When you book the house you have exclusive use during your stay. The house has a growing reputation for introducing new literary and musical talent from both Wales and the rest of the world. The house is open for house tours every day at 11am / 1pm / 3pm and the relaxed journey takes you through the beautifully restored rooms to give you an insight into life in the Edwardian era and a perfect starting point to discover just how Dylan was inspired by "...this sea-town..." These tours generally last 1hr 15mins. Pre-booking is advisable as on occasion the house is required for filming, meetings and other purposes which will mean the inability to carry out house tours at times where advertised. We do of course, apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused in these instances. Pre-booking can be done by phone or email

I found this place as one of the must-do things in Swansea. Dragging my two teenage kids who had "never heard of Dylan Thomas" kicking and screaming I relied on the reviews to prove me right. And right I was. You don't really need to know or care who Dylan Thomas is--that's the bonus. The fabulous thing about this visit,... More

Matthew had us spellbound with his description of Dylan's early life, his family background, his school life and development as a poet. As we visited room after room, the story continued to unfold and the social history of the times was laid before us. Fascinating. So fascinating, we came away with books, CDs and postcards to mull over at a... More

Great little visit - staff very engaged with the whole place and history - they are very informative and helpful - has a great small cafe as well where you can grab something on the terrrace and see the views that inspired the man so much. Matthew took us round this wonderful house. He was so well informed about Dylan Thomas and brought his life alive. We stayed for about two hours and were not rushed in any way. This is an amazing place! Come and see it. You won't be disappointed. And for others like the National Trust who manage historic houses and the like... More

We rang a few days before and booked a tour with Geoff. We arrived and we had the best guided tour ever, we spent 2 whole hours in the company of Geoff our tour guide who immersed us into the early years of Dylan Thomas's life. All the rooms in the house have been carefully refurbish in the era of... More

A thoroughly enjoyable tour with the very passionate and knowledgeable Matt. Great to get a sense not only of Thomas's surroundings during his formative years as a poet, but also a fascinating insight into Welsh life in the 1910s. Thank you!
