At this fascinating place one learns about the eccentricities of a flamboyant owner from the well informed room stewards. I enjoyed hearing about the parrot trained to climb up inside trouser legs and appear in an unexpected place. The dining room looked particularly magnificent set out for a wedding and outside the stand out feature is the magnificent gilded gates.... More

Just outside Newport there is a gem of a country house that, although the renovation is still under development, is a fascinating day out. There is lots to see and the staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and they are happy for you to go around on your own and engage with them if you want to. There are substantial gardens... More

Lovely house set in beautiful gardens near Newport South Wales. This super National Trust Property is well with visiting and on a lovely sunny day it was a joy to wander around the well tended and colourful gardens and just soak up the atmosphere

This is a lovely place for a good quiet walk around the lake. The grounds are absolutely stunning & if you choose to venture into the house it is mesmerising. It is such a relaxing place, excellent green area for picnics. There is a small park which is ideal for small children & feeding the ducks is also a popular.... More

I've been many times to this majestic Historic House, which must be one of the Jewels for the people of Newport! The House itself is Grand and creaky! There's loads to see and I understand there are also Plays/Music in the Summer. There are also vast Parklands (FREE) to walk around, including a really pretty Boating Lake. This is about... More

I live quite near here in Cardiff and I am a National Trust member so I am quite a regular visitor. The house and the gardens are beautiful and I am fascinated by the tales of Viscount Evan Morgan in particular. It is run by NT volunteers who work very hard and are extremely knowledgeable. The country park surrounding the... More

The kids loved it here, we didn't stop too long but we had a picnic, a scoot around the park and a play in the play area. It's spacious, well maintained, pretty, and parking is plentiful. My only irk was that the play area could do with a little updating, but if your kids just want to run around then... More

Thank you for your positive review Jodie – it’s lovely to hear that you had such a nice day in the parkland. We’re really glad your kids had a great time running around and having fun! Our play area is definitely well loved and little tired at the moment. It hasn’t escaped our notice and we do have long term... More
