In our fun, free and interactive galleries, discover how Cardiff was transformed from the small market town of the 1300s, to one of the world's biggest ports in the 1900s, to the cool, cosmopolitan capital we know today. The museum, in the beautiful and historic Old Library building, is rich in stories, objects, photographs and film telling the history of Cardiff through the eyes of those who created the city – its people.

I was pleasantly surprised with the friendly and helpful attitude of each and everyone in the museum. Not a huge museum but very much nurtured with love and care, anyone can feel the warmth when you go here. I learnt so many things about Cardiff. I was carrying a large shopping bag with me and I found a very kind... More

A nice exhibit that doesn't take too long to look at. The dollhouse exhibit was really sweet and the bit at the end where they show different people's opinion of the city through the ages was very interesting.

This is a one room museum, in the old Central Library, in The Hayes, depicting Cardiff 100 years ago, at the height of the Coal Age. A small exhibit of "smells" and low light, help kids better understand how Cardiff was... There is a tourist information centre in the same building.

History told in an attention grabbing way. Lots to see, although there appears to be some gaps in the story of Cardiff. but this is counteracted by many "hands on" exhibits and displayed. Lots of items to create interest, but little info backing it up. Still worthwhile looking in; an enjoyable mid morning visit.

Adequate for local school kids, Adults might find it a bit dull. Building (Old Library) is classic Victorian & is the star for the sow really, great tilework corridor and fountains (upstairs and down.)

There is a lot here and it included some local exhibitions from artists and children. Very clean, lift access and a place I thoroughly recommend

This looks to be a great museum, spread over three floors, there's a huge amount to see, watch and listen to, and it's free! The top floor was devoted to two art exhibitions when I visited, both very different but high quality. The other two floors are the main part of the museum, dealing with Cardiff's history. I could have... More

This museum is actually quite small - just a floor - but it was one of the best I've been to. It's called its name because a great deal of the information in the museum has been retrieved from people from Cardiff, so you get to hear a lot of first-hand accounts of Cardiff life throughout the centuries. It really... More
