This is what my kids used to call it, when we passed along the motorway. It is a triumph of a Gothic reconstruction by the brilliant William Burges - well worth visiting

Fantastic free audio tour via podcast and not over the top information. Very tactile interior and amazing buildings.

When one first sees the rounded pointed turrets one immediately thinks of wizards. A very unusual and unique design which catches the eye immediately. The audio tour (at no extra cost) is excellent and extremely informative. A must visit as it it very different to the usual castle designs/images.

Castell Coch is an unusual building with a fascinating history, well worth a detour or a special half-day outing if you are in the vicinity. It also offers a friendly and hassle-free visitor experience with helpful staff if you need them and a really excellent, unobtrusive hand-held audio guide with just the right amount of information for a relaxed viewing.... A small fairy tale castle which is just enough for all ages to enjoy. Ideal areas for picnicking within the walls - you could almost imagine you live there. The rooms give an insight into the imagination of its owners at the time - although Lord Bute obviously loved his Lady as her bedroom is so luxurious and his is... More

Built for the Bute family, who built Cardiff Docks, Just off Junc 32 of the M4, towers are visible over the top of the tree line. Used for tv productions, not very big, but an interesting building.

Had a great trip to the restored medieval Castle Coch, just outside Cardiff. Do go inside, the banqueting room and the bedrooms are absolutely stunning. The paint work and carving are a classic example of Gothic revival in the late 19th century
