It cost £5,50 to get in to the Castell. Beware all the rooms are off of old narrow winding staircases so if your not good with steps avoid as there is nothing to see except the courtyard and the exterior There are around 8 rooms to see in total they offer a podcast point in each room which is well... I did this as part of a Roam Wales tour. The tour opted to spend time exploring the much larger and free Caerphilly Castle and only walk around the outside of Castle Coch. The castle is pretty with it's red stones. The park it's located in looks like it would make a nice outing for hiking or picnic lunches. From... More

This is amazing, far better than I was expecting, so nice to see a castle that is not in ruins and the decoration and restoration has got to be seen. great value for money and if it had not been raining we would have taken the opportunity to take a walk through the woods too

Castell Coch is a Victorian "Disney" castle - modelled upon the Medieval castle that once stood here, this is something of a "folly" created for the 3rd Marquis of Bute by William Burges. The architecture is pretty accurate, but the interiors are quite "over the top". But it is set in woodland and the approach, from Cardiff, shows it to... More

just a great place to visit, right in the heart of Cardiff, loads of history, you can explore it all day and views of the city as well.

Great scenery! Great views! Looks like something iut of a fairy tale. A must be protected site!! Well worth passing on a bike ride up the taff trail. Not a lot to do here mind! And bring your own water! Its a beastly hill up to the castle and no drinks to be sold at the top!

£5.50 for an adult, I expected more. It was a pretty building but it feels a mockery, an imitation. The word fairytale is written on many of the information boards and hence the word has been placed into people's minds for their reviews.

"Average" is definitely not the correct word although I gave the Castell 3* only. This is a fantasy creation only very loosely based on the ruins of an actual medieval castle that has existed at the spot. I personally prefer a more authentic atmosphere. Having said that I stress the lack of authenticity is definitely nothing like "plastic and bubblegum",... More

Not a true "castle" in the sense that it was build to live in, not be defended, but it has lots of really neat nooks and crannies, and lots of history. Amazing walls - painted but look like wallpaper, amazing talent. Definitely worth a stop.

Wonderful little castle with Burges' eccentric decoration beautifully preserved and displayed. Came here the same day as I visited Cardiff Castle for a full Victorian Gothic overload - brilliant. Burges was a genius. Beware lots of narrow, stone spiral staircases but if you can cope with those its well worth a visit - a unique building. The only downside for... More
