Loved this! A fantastic little gem of a castle, situated just outside Cardiff. It was free for us to visit, thanks to our English Heritage cards so even better!

Just got home from a visit to Castle Coch. Very disappointed - not much access at all for disabled people. The castle grounds are gorgeous and some lovely sights, but it's inside the castle that is the let down. You do have to pay to go in, even if for the cafe, which does not serve any hot food, only... This castle has so much character, I recommend a visit if you're in the area. The small cafe inside offers some nice meals too. Tip: you don't have to pay to visit the cafe, just say at the gate that you're going to the cafe only.

The view from the A470 always makes it look like a fairy castle Surrounded by woods it's a pretty sight . Castell Coh (Red Castle) is not an ancient castle.it was created by William Burges for the 3rd Marquess of Bute but built on an ancient site. It's a beautiful folly and well worth a visit, reasonable entrance fees and... More

I have been here many times to walk in the woods and go in the castle. The dungeon is down the stone stairs and is deep and silent and you can feel what it would be like to be locked away there. This is a good place to spend a few hours.

A great place to visit, full of history. Very steep stairs in places may cause a problem for the older people and young children. Nice little cafe and gift shop. Reasonable entrance fee. Loads of parking (free)

Beautiful castle with fascinating stories behind every aspect of the building. Why the room above the main entrance belonged to the man of the house. Details about every room, why each one way pained the way it was and how often it was used. Over the last 10+ years we have visited here several times, the last time would of... More

Had driven to Cardiff and seen this from the road many times. We decided to visit and was not disappointed. We were made to feel so welcome and the staff were very helpful and happy to answer any questions. This castle is magical and provides a great insight into a time gone by for the rich Lord and Lady Bute.... More

We didn't go in the castle as you have to pay but the walk is free. It was beautiful and not too strenuous either!

We haven't been inside, but the building and area was delightful. We went on a tour which gave us a photo stop only.
