Best is to part at the barrage car par for £1 an hour and take a two hour walk to the Wales Millennium Centre and back. It looks like they ran out of money in the centre bit which is in need of landscaping and quite overgrown.

Monday 4th August, sunny day in Wales, we parked up in Penarth and walked to Cardiff bay by means of the Wales Coast Path and then the Cardiff Bay Barrage. We chose to walk over the Barrage to the Bay, however, there is a water taxi that can be taken, think it was about £3.50 for an adult one way.... More

We walked from Cardiff Bay to the Barrage and back. It was a warm late spring afternoon, and we quite enjoyed our stroll. It looks like they have spent quite a bit of money aronund the Bay area itself, with the shops and surrounds, but the walk to the barrage could do with more of a spruce up.Old tired wire... More

We are keen cyclists and cycled here from Radyr. We really enjoyed going over the barrage and were lucky enough to be there when the bridge was lifted to let a boat through. Just beyond at Penarth marina is an excellent cafe.

Always looking for good walks to take my mum on. This has flat even surface, a good amount of seating for rests and toilet facilities. There is also a play park for children and interactive learning boards half way.

Great to spend some time walking here from Cardiff Bay. You can do a full loop which takes a good hour or so. Stunning views back across the Bay. Plenty of benches along the way to take rests if you want to. Also there is the Dr Who experience on the way and the Marina as well. Worth a visit... More

This is a lovely place to visit, especially for walkers. Lots to see especially the barrage itself. Visit the coffee bars in the old marina area and there are plenty of places to eat. But BEWARE of the bikers they can be a nightmare when you are strolling along and it is busy they come from all ways, as I... More

We walked from Penarth back to Cardiff, impressive views of the bay and also some of the industrial aspects of Cardiff. A really nice walk.

It's a nice walk from Cardiff Bay where all the action is out along the barrage to Penarth Marina. It's well worth a visit.

Very interesting piece of engineering. We were there in time to see the barrage working, letting boats in and out. A lovely walk from Cardiff Bay with plenty to see on the way.
