If you travel from the Penarth end of the barrage you get a great view towards the Cardiff Bay area and Mermaids Quay. The locks when they are working are amazing. You will see plenty of sea birds diving for fish at the outlet for the bay. There are play areas for the kids, history boards for everyone and even... More

Great place to go for a walk, just make sure it is not too windy else you will be very cold. There is a pedal bike/pedal go-cart hire place close to the Dr Who experience side of the barrage, you can hire a bike for £5 per hour. Worth doing this if you don't fancy walking. Nice for a romantic... More

Awesome engineering on the lock construction, sluice gates and fish access route up through the barrage, shame all that volume of water doesn't produce any renewable energy as it flows out to sea.

A great walk always with a breeze, it's understandable as you are at the top of a channel (Bristol Channel). You can walk from Penarth to Cardiff Bay, a water taxi is usually available for the return journey if needed. It has an outside gym, children's area and lock gates. The lock gates may hold you up if in a hurry/timed... More

My family and I decided to walk over the barrage yesterday....I hadn't done this before and was pleasantly surprised.....the walk took in some really great views and we saw some nice birds. Watching the boats and yachts up close was a great change....well worth a visit.

Great place for a walk and amazing views of Cardiff on a sunny day. Kids will also love the walk as their is plenty for them to do. Skate park and play areas! Well worth the 1 hour round trip from the bay!

Wow, what an experience ...I'm not a great one for walking but this is a fantastic walk from Penarth to Cardiff. End up at Cardiff's Mermaid Quay ...just in time for a well earned spritzer ... Do it!

The Cardiff Bay Barrage offers great views towards the city and the Severn Estuary, even if the walk from the Millenium Centre may be a little bit too long for many people.
