The site is managed by Cardiff Council and is currently undergoing a major £5.6M restoration project supported by a £3.1M grant award from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2009 which will restore some important historic features, provide new facilities and help tell the park's fascinating story. At 56 hectares (equivalent to 75 football pitches), Bute Park is one of the largest urban parks in Wales and comprises a broad mix of historic landscape, urban woodland, sports pitches, arboretum, horticultural features and river corridor. Bute Park offers something for everyone including the Bute Park Education Centre, 3 wonderful cafes, toilet facilities, a woodland balance trail, sculpture trail, fitness trail and a varied events programme. Easily accessible from the centre of Cardiff, Bute Park is listed along with Cardiff Castle as a Grade 1 historic designed landscape and contains the fascinating site of a former Blackfriars Friary which is a scheduled ancient monument. The magnificent Arboretum contains 41 Champion trees, the tallest or widest of their species in the UK or Ireland, which is more than any other public park in the UK. Along with the rest of the rare tree collection, the stunning Herbaceous Border, and the range of wildlife present, Bute Park and Arboretum is worth a visit all year round. « less

Bute Park is part arboretum, part show garden, and part grassy park land. It features many ‘specimen trees’, beautiful vistas in every direction, and the gently flowing Tarff River. People seem to use parks for a wide variety of purposes, and we believe this one will nicely satisfy almost every desire. The visual artist, whether with camera or easel could... More

A very hot day and a walk through a stunning park. Simply beautiful. Not too many cyclists or too many rowdy revellers. Just right.

This place is a well kept nice place with the river flowing through the centre. It's really close to town. The park is as good as any other park.

This park is simply stunning. There's plenty of wildlife, well kept flower beds, two nice clean and affordable cafes and plenty of space for dogs and kids to play. The only thing it lacks is a playground for the children, id definitely visit more often if it had a park, but choose Roath park instead as it is similar but... More

Bute Park is in the centre of Cardiff. Cardiff Castle is next door to the park & the shops are a few steps away. I visit Bute Park quite regularly because Park Run is held here every Saturday morning at 9am. Around 400 people, of all ages and abilities, show up and run 5k. It's a nice scenic park with... More

Just take a walk through this wonderful park and you will be stress free after 10 minutes! A great array of different trees and foliage, the Taff running along side, pleasant coffee stops and catch a ferry near the castle back to Cardiff Bay.... perfect.

A good place to escape the streets and chill for a while. Huge space, to get lost in. Walk round the castle walls and pretend to plan a siege....
