The site is managed by Cardiff Council and is currently undergoing a major £5.6M restoration project supported by a £3.1M grant award from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2009 which will restore some important historic features, provide new facilities and help tell the park's fascinating story. At 56 hectares (equivalent to 75 football pitches), Bute Park is one of the largest urban parks in Wales and comprises a broad mix of historic landscape, urban woodland, sports pitches, arboretum, horticultural features and river corridor. Bute Park offers something for everyone including the Bute Park Education Centre, 3 wonderful cafes, toilet facilities, a woodland balance trail, sculpture trail, fitness trail and a varied events programme. Easily accessible from the centre of Cardiff, Bute Park is listed along with Cardiff Castle as a Grade 1 historic designed landscape and contains the fascinating site of a former Blackfriars Friary which is a scheduled ancient monument. The magnificent Arboretum contains 41 Champion trees, the tallest or widest of their species in the UK or Ireland, which is more than any other public park in the UK. Along with the rest of the rare tree collection, the stunning Herbaceous Border, and the range of wildlife present, Bute Park and Arboretum is worth a visit all year round. « less

The car parking cost £5.20 for 4 hours which I thought was very expensive. I would have liked to have stayed longer but the prices went up ridiculously. Unfortunately there was an event going on in the park at the time of our visit which meant some of the park was off limits but we headed straight for the jetty... More

What a lovely park to find in the middle of Cardiff. Highly recommended. Lovely paths to walk along and the stone circle came as a surprise.

A great , large park right next to Cardiff castle. It is so peaceful in there you wouldn't believe you were smack bang in the middle of a bustling City. Also has the river running through it.

Me and my girlfriend were walking and spotted this park out of the blue, it's a very nice walk going along side the river, very relaxed and chilled when walking through... And with an interactive stop where you can get information about various birds and how it's pronounced in welsh... Definitely a must and from a main bridge the view... More

Right in the heart of a Cardiff you find Bute Park. When I visited parts of it were being prepared for Barack Obama's visit so could not go all over but saying that there is still loads of space to relax and wander. You can also get a River Boat from the park to take you to the Bay.

Bute park is a little piece of heaven on earth. A real gem in the middle of a city. It is quite expansive, well used, but there is enough space to accommodate the groups large and small as well as the solitary jogger, biker, walker etc. There is also a fitness trail with exercise stations along the way. Quite thoughtful... More

Even though you are in the middle of a very large city, you could run away with the idea that you were in the middle of the country. On a fine sunny day one can sit for hours just watching the world go by.
