The site is managed by Cardiff Council and is currently undergoing a major £5.6M restoration project supported by a £3.1M grant award from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2009 which will restore some important historic features, provide new facilities and help tell the park's fascinating story. At 56 hectares (equivalent to 75 football pitches), Bute Park is one of the largest urban parks in Wales and comprises a broad mix of historic landscape, urban woodland, sports pitches, arboretum, horticultural features and river corridor. Bute Park offers something for everyone including the Bute Park Education Centre, 3 wonderful cafes, toilet facilities, a woodland balance trail, sculpture trail, fitness trail and a varied events programme. Easily accessible from the centre of Cardiff, Bute Park is listed along with Cardiff Castle as a Grade 1 historic designed landscape and contains the fascinating site of a former Blackfriars Friary which is a scheduled ancient monument. The magnificent Arboretum contains 41 Champion trees, the tallest or widest of their species in the UK or Ireland, which is more than any other public park in the UK. Along with the rest of the rare tree collection, the stunning Herbaceous Border, and the range of wildlife present, Bute Park and Arboretum is worth a visit all year round. « less

It's a park so trees and flowers. Well kept and beautiful, and the riverside adds a touch to it. You can also enjoy looking at the Cardiff Castle from the outside, and coming in wonder at the amusing Animal Wall. There are also points of interest within the park, close to the main entrance from the city centre there is... More

The park is a great way to relax from the bustle of the city. Just cross the road and walk past the animal wall and into the park. Acres upon acres of parkland with river walks and view of the castle framed by magnificant trees. Three lovely cafes serving delicious cakes and snacks. Very relaxing.

Remains a favourite space in the centre of the city. Cardiffians are so lucky to have this beautiful riverside green place on their doorstep. It really is a gift to all: commuters, fitness fans, families & visitors, Cardiff isnt particularly polluted these days but it is a perfect quick escape from the hustle & bustle of the city centre or... Had the pleasure of cycling round the park on a glorious sunny day in September. I have lived in the area for years but have never seen the park looking so good

It was evening when I enjoyed a walk along the river and into the park. I hoped to return via the Castle, but it turned out that all exits except the one I entered by were closed for the night. Apart from this disappointment, I loved the park and will revisit next time I'm in Cardiff

I recommend every tourist grab a sandwich and a blanket on a sunny day and settle in Bute park. Lovely big park with plenty of space to people watch, soak up the sun and relax.

Bute Park, right next to the Cardiff Castle, has many attractions; the Animal Wall, boat rides to the Harbor Bay Walk and shops, Pedigrew's Tearoom. Stop in at any of the tearooms in the park and buy the 1 pound booklet Family Tree Trail. It gives purpose to your walk as you use the map and tree tags to find... More
