The site is managed by Cardiff Council and is currently undergoing a major £5.6M restoration project supported by a £3.1M grant award from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2009 which will restore some important historic features, provide new facilities and help tell the park's fascinating story. At 56 hectares (equivalent to 75 football pitches), Bute Park is one of the largest urban parks in Wales and comprises a broad mix of historic landscape, urban woodland, sports pitches, arboretum, horticultural features and river corridor. Bute Park offers something for everyone including the Bute Park Education Centre, 3 wonderful cafes, toilet facilities, a woodland balance trail, sculpture trail, fitness trail and a varied events programme. Easily accessible from the centre of Cardiff, Bute Park is listed along with Cardiff Castle as a Grade 1 historic designed landscape and contains the fascinating site of a former Blackfriars Friary which is a scheduled ancient monument. The magnificent Arboretum contains 41 Champion trees, the tallest or widest of their species in the UK or Ireland, which is more than any other public park in the UK. Along with the rest of the rare tree collection, the stunning Herbaceous Border, and the range of wildlife present, Bute Park and Arboretum is worth a visit all year round. « less

In the heart of Cardiff, across the road from the Millennium Stadium you have this wonderful large park, in the shadow of the castle. You will not find many neat flower beds, though there are a lot of lovely trees, but a great place to stroll around, or relax on the grass in the summer weather.

A very large park with so much to see, many walks and a river and weir with lots of wildlife. This is a great place to walk or relax after a visit to Cardiff Castle. Great to find in the middle of the city

Fantastic walk through the park along the river. The dog is in his element here. A stop off at the Summerhouse is always on our route for a quick coffee and a little something sweet. The grandchildren love it here. So many trees and leaves, conkers, pine cones.

Having spent a while in Cardiff working, it was a very nice to get away and play a bit of rugby in the park. Quiet, relaxing and defiantly worth a trip if you are just trying to get away from the city centre

Wonderfully large park in centre of the city. Very popular, great just to walk through or for running. Always relax here during the sunny summer with friends. There are usually lots of events here during summer months. Hidden oasis in a bustling city.
