Description: Welcome to Bute Park & Arboretum, an extensive area of mature parkland...
Welcome to Bute Park & Arboretum, an extensive area of mature parkland that forms the 'green heart' of Cardiff. The site is managed by Cardiff Council and recently benefitted from a major £5.6M restoration project, supported by a £3.1M grant award from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which restored important historic features, provided new facilities and helped tell the park's fascinating story. At 56 hectares (equivalent to 75 football pitches), Bute Park is one of the largest urban parks in Wales and comprises a broad mix of historic landscape, urban woodland, sports pitches, arboretum, horticultural features and river corridor. Bute Park offers something for everyone including the Bute Park Education Centre, 3 wonderful cafes, toilet facilities, a woodland balance trail, sculpture trail, fitness trail and a varied events programme. Easily accessible from the centre of Cardiff, Bute Park is listed along with Cardiff Castle as a Grade 1 historic designed landscape and contains the fascinating site of a former Blackfriars Friary which is a scheduled ancient monument. The magnificent Arboretum contains 41 Champion trees, the tallest or widest of their species in the UK or Ireland, which is more than any other public park in the UK. Along with the rest of the rare tree collection, the stunning Herbaceous Border, and the range of wildlife present, Bute Park and Arboretum is worth a visit all year round.

I love Bute park in the spring, summer, and autumn as I get to ride my bike through its wonderfully vibrant grounds as I commute to work. It is such a relaxing place, even when I'm speeding through it. I'm sure that everyone else loves passing through on their way to somewhere else but wish that they could idle a... More

Gorgeous park that was bustling with life. The RHS Flower show was on whilst we were there. Although there were a lot of people there, there was plenty of room to manouver. You can see the castle from the park in all it's glory. The gargoyles on the wall are also brilliant.

Very well kept park, an oasis of calm in a vibrant city. Lovely to sit and watch the world go by, ideal to get to and from the city centre.

I can recommend going to the RHS Flower show at the park its FAB! Loads to do and see. You will find the talks theater really helpful where you can ask questions about all aspects of gardening.

It was a really good show. Plenty to see, plenty to eat and drink. There were bands playing in the bandstand. They were very good too.

I love Bute Park. On a sunny day it is the place to be. It's a large green space, where everyone seems to go on the gorgeous sunny days. It's lovely, with lovely views of lots of green space, and Cardiff Castle.

What a beautiful area right in the heart of Cardiff. We stayed overnight at a nearby B & B to attend a wedding party on the Saturday night. It was a warm sunny evening and we walked through the park which was very busy with people walking dogs and cycling. On Sunday morning we again walked through the park lovely... More

On a trip with friends we had some extra time before our train left for home, and we decided to spend it in this lovely park. It was an amazing, sunny, spring day, and there were blooming flowers and a comfortable breeze all over the place. The park is huge, but it's also easy to walk through on your way... More

Lovely to walk around on a nice day, and as an added bonus we were there in time to see the cherry blossoms.

Bute park is a spacious in the centre of Cardiff. It has a river, cycle paths, bridges, cafes, secluded wodded areas, open green areas, some ruins and it is a great way to spend an afternoon away from the hustle of the city centre. Always well kept.
