Eight hundred years old and it gives a sense of impregnability. Excellent regimental museum within the walls. The castle lies between the sea, the river and a small old fashioned Welsh town. Ample car parking nearby. Don't miss going on to visiting Conwy at the same time - superb castle, Elizabethan town hown, complete town walls, terrific scenery, historic road... more

The castle and the activities within are excellent. However it is surrounded by a sea of tarmacadam and the town is dark and uninviting. Even from seaward the view is dominated by the most hideous block of apartments. more

Definitely worth a visit, and is a bargain at only £4.95 for an adult ticket. It is a 'proper' castle and a great place to explore, but is not suitable for anyone who finds steps tricky. We spent a good couple of hours climbing up and down the towers, discovering 'secret' rooms and walking along the battlements. more

Dry windy cold day at the end of October. Castle looks spectacular from the outside and we were not dispointed once inside. My 11 year old daughter was not looking forward to visiting at all. However once insid we had a great time. There are loads of towers and spiral staircases to climb. This is great for the active among... more

Visited the castle for a day where Prince Charles was investituted. As it is on the water it was quite cool that day and we were bundled up tight. Gwynnedd is a pretty little town but as it was Sunday it was mostly shuttered up tight. There was plenty to do at the castle and plenty of historical information but... more

Larger than it looks from the outside! Definately worth spending at least 1 hr here if you're interested in history. Love the fact that you can access all the towers, a bit of a workout for your knees but the views are worth it. We only spent 40 min. here but definately could've done with more time. Worth the £5.50... more

I found Caernarfon fascinating! Having previously lived in Germany for 3 yrs, I have visited many castles. This one is magnificent! I was in a guided tour group and our guide informed that the castle was built by Edward I, also known as Longshanks. Any Braveheart fans will recognize that name as the King of England who terrorized Mel Gibson... more

Best castle, in construction, looks and maintenance in the British Isles (Henry VII tore many down and Henry VIII finished the job). Some of the staircases are worn and slippery-be careful going up into the towers. The stairs tend to be narrow (folks were skinnier in those days)-a potential problem for bulkier folks like me. Town is small but souvenir... more

We went to Caernarvon in early March and were pleased to find it almost empty. It was great to wander and explore without ever really having to see anybody else. This is the best castle we've been to so far, and I doubt anything out there is gonna beat it. I absolutely recommend it to anyone. It's a little out... more

I'm not "a castle expert" but my husband has dragged me to a few. This one I actually enjoyed and found fascinating. Not only go inside but walk around it. We did that at sunset and it was beautiful. more
