Travelling on the Vale of Rheidol Railway is the finest way to see the stunning Rheidol Valley. We pass through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns clinging to the hillside gradually climbing nearly 700ft (200m)from Aberystwyth to reach our destination at Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seensoaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can beenjoyed by all.

Beautiful trip of just the right length (about one hour) from the centre of Aberystwyth to the top of a hill, this old mining train route passes through some gorgeous scenery. Train is, as others have said, kept beautifully shiny and peeps at regular intervals along the trip. It's a 60cm narrow guage train and track, so not the Gordon-Henry... More

This is not the cheapest day out although they do say "you get what you pay for". Our small family travelled on the railway 23/04/2015. The scenery is breath taking, the carriages are really well kept and fresh and clean(owners please do not forget to wipe the plush leather seats as they become dirty from the steam) All of the... From booking the tickets to arriving at the station, things couldn't have been made more pleasant. Helpful, enthusiastic and engaging staff made the trip really fab for us. We loved the scenery, the sounds and the care lavished on this railway - it was a great way to experience the Vale of Reidol.

There isn't much to say, but it is a great experience. A great experience for the train lovers and a chance to see the beautiful scenery of Wales. I would definitely do it again.

... then come here! How great was this? My oldest son (4) loves steam trains so the last 18 months have been a bit of a mission to experience as many as possible. This is a particularly good one. The engines themselves are superb. Real geek central. During the trip you get to see them take on water from a... More

Lovely ride on the narrow-gauge railway from Aberystwyth to Devil-s Bridge. Wandered around at the top; the bridge is fascinating. If you have more time, there is a nice walk (with an entrance fee)

not knowing what to expect we booked our return tickets to Devils Bridge from Aberystwyth, first impressions were that we had paid high prices for third class travel (that's what it says on the coaches) but upon reading the brochure, I realised that all of the carriages were "third class", we got in and the guard took our tickets, then... Just bloody marvellous! Train was a challenge to get in and out for me being on sticks/wheelchair. Quite a large step up to board/depart the train. Two sorts of carriage available; open air (but with roof and no windows) or fully enclosed. Some stations are undergoing restoration, although many are already done. Gorgeous scenery and can view steam from the... More

Many thanks for your review and recommendation. We are sorry you had difficulty boarding and slighting from the carriages. We are unusual in that all trains are made up of vintage carriages dating back to the 1920s and 30s. We have worked hard recently to provide raised platforms at the stations which simplifies boarding and alighting. (Previously these were just... More
