We pass through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns clinging to the hillside gradually climbing nearly 700ft (200m)from Aberystwyth to reach our destination at Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seensoaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can beenjoyed by all. « less

A fantastic trip on this well managed railway. The scenery along the way is fantastic and with luck, you'll be able to spot Kites and Buzzards etc. Devils Bridge is a fascinating place with lots of history. The wives completed the long walk and said it was tiring, but really good.

Yes it really is a spectacular journey. The red kites, once an endangered species, now thrive in the Rheidol Valley! Thanks for your review. More

Took our 19 month old son on a steam train. He loved it. The views are fabulous with lots to see above the river. Our dog enjoyed it too sleeping away. We took a pushchair which isn't recommended if you want to do the Devil's bridge waterfall walk. We popped back the next day with the backpack! Great fun. Great... More

Last time I travelled on the line I was 13 or 14 - around 1999. I now work on the mainline and with the summer two train service, the Vale of Rheidol was an easy day trip by train. The railway and the journey was great. The railway has developed and improved it's facilities, stations and the coaches even have... More

So much has changed and developed . . . You are certainly right there and we've not finished yet! We've got all sorts of plans up our sleeve for making a fantastic railway even better. Refurbishing First Class is on the agenda. Our friends on the Ffestiniog Railway have set a good bench mark to follow. Watch this space .... More

Went with all our friends and had a lovely day on the train. Well worth a visit, shame when we got to the end of the line it was raining so could not for a walk to see the waterfall. Need to go back sometime to do this walk.

This was a very enjoyable trip on a narrow gauge railway that is full of nostalgia. The early part of the journey through the industrial estates should not put you off. Once out into the country the views are great and you can see much wildlife from the train including Buzzards and Red Kites. The destination at Devil's Bridge offers... More

Hi there, Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed the journey - it really is a stunning ride. 25 years ago the Industrial Estate was open farmland - a shame its been built on! Do come and see us again some point! More

Myself and three friends arrived earlier in the day by train from Crewe (via Shrewsbury). The railway opened in 1902 to carry lead ore, timber and Edwardian holidaymakers. The coal fired steam locomotives were built for this line by the Great Western Railway in the 1920s and 30s. The eleven and three quarter mile journey between Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge... More

Thanks for the review. We take great pride in running the railway and keeping up the immaculate appearance of the stations and rolling stock and are pleased it meets with your approval. Take-away cups at the cafe are usually available - not quite sure why they weren't on the day of your visit. Do come and see us again before... More

Although we visited on a day where there was a limited service, due to a special event, so didn't get much time at Devils Bridge, we had a lovely ride on this beautiful line. Friendly staff, and our dogs were made welcome too.

On a nice day this is a stunning trip the landscapes are beautiful. If you want to take pictures go in the open carriages you will not be disappointed. Cafe @ Devils bridge disappointing but that is just my opinion for others it might be ok.

We decided to spend a day riding the rail and a walk around devils bridge as my husband loves photography and trains. We took our 4month old son who seemed to really love the journey. It is very well maintained and both aberystwyth station and devils bridge station are very nice. It seems that it is very pricey at £18... More

Hi there, Many thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed the journey. I'm sorry you found our prices expensive. Unfortunately keeping a historic railway in tip top condition isn't cheap - and everything we earn in fares gets ploughed back into restoring the railway for future generations. Our prices compare very favourably with other steam railways given the length of... More
