Travelling on the Vale of Rheidol Railway is the finest way to see the stunning Rheidol Valley. We pass through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns clinging to the hillside gradually climbing nearly 700ft (200m)from Aberystwyth to reach our destination at Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seensoaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can beenjoyed by all.

The Vale of Rheidol is a beautifully maintained narrow gauge railway running from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge via the Rheidol Valley. A lot of work has been done over the last few years on renovating the stations along the line and in opening up unique views looking down into the valley as trains climb to Devil's Bridge. The locomotives are... More

We did the return journey from/to Aberystwyth - Devils Bridge. This is a fantastic railway with the most stunning views. My 14, 12 and 11 year old children all loved it. This is undoubtedly the very best steam railway that we have been on ... and we will be going back even though it's 3 hours from home. It's not... More

It is great to hear you think the VoR is the best steam railway you've experienced. We do our best to make it a fun day out for all the family. We look forward to welcoming you again at some point in the future. I can recommend an autumn visit - the valley looks particularly spectacular at that time of... More

The Vale Of Rheidol Railway is a brilliant thing to do for a day out if you're staying in the Aberystwyth /Ceredigion area. A return is £21 for adults and £8 for children. This might sound a lot but the journey lasts an hour each way through absolutely beautiful scenery. This also gets you a 15% discount in the shop... More

Very scenic, travel in an closed carriage to avoid getting covered in soot! Last trip down in the dark is romantic due to the subdued lighting

Caught the train at Aberystwyth, nice little station, surprisingly in the centre of town and has free parking. Staff quite accommodating in what was a busy train. Spectacular views on route, the only down side is there's not much to do at the other end that doesn't cost money, but by no means that is the fault of the railway!... More

Many thanks for your review. Glad you had an enjoyable trip. We know the fares are not cheap, however as a not for profit organisation, every penny raised in fares gets ploughed back into restoring the railway for future generations. More

Such a relaxing journey with beautiful views. On the outward journey we sat in an open side carriage. This gave great views however was a little cold. The seats being metal also can make your bum a little numb if sitting in the same place for too long. The smell of steam and all the sounds that comes with it... More

This is one of the best heritage steam train lines I've been on. We decided to drive to Devil's Bridge and go by train to Aberystwyth and back. Luckily we has a sunny day and were rewarded with breath-taking views of the very beautiful Rheidol valley. Some of the slopes are cliff-like so not for the faint-hearted. Mostly we were... More

Fish and chip special on a Wednesday evening......we have been a number of times before and never with a dog. Great experience coming back in the dimly lit carriages watching a classic sunset from the window. Worth every penny and a good night out for a family (with a dog or not!). Stunning scenery not to be missed.

We recently re-visited this scenic preserved railway that we had visited many years ago when our children were young and it has lost none of its attraction to us now as two seniors, we travelled on the pristine conditioned "Prince Of Wales" steam loco up to Devils Bridge from Aberystwyth the journey takes about a hour through this scenic vale....
