We pass through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns clinging to the hillside gradually climbing nearly 700ft (200m)from Aberystwyth to reach our destination at Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seensoaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can beenjoyed by all. « less

On a nice day this is a stunning trip the landscapes are beautiful. If you want to take pictures go in the open carriages you will not be disappointed. Cafe @ Devils bridge disappointing but that is just my opinion for others it might be ok.

We decided to spend a day riding the rail and a walk around devils bridge as my husband loves photography and trains. We took our 4month old son who seemed to really love the journey. It is very well maintained and both aberystwyth station and devils bridge station are very nice. It seems that it is very pricey at £18... More

Hi there, Many thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed the journey. I'm sorry you found our prices expensive. Unfortunately keeping a historic railway in tip top condition isn't cheap - and everything we earn in fares gets ploughed back into restoring the railway for future generations. Our prices compare very favourably with other steam railways given the length of... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. I had planned it some weeks before we went to Wales and was rather looking forward to it. We paid for the first class carriage which to be honest was a bit of a con at an extra £10 and certainly not worth the extra tenner. Cramped carriage when full, we came back down in... More

Hi there, Many thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your trip on the Vale of Rheidol. It really is a cracking little railway. I'm sorry you felt that First Class was not worth the supplement. We are looking at re-furbishing the carriage in due course to make it a little more exclusive and salubrious. Kind regards, Will Smith More

We spent a lovely day travelling up to Devils Bridge on this lovely railway in the morning. We stopped at the Two Hoots cafe at the top for a coffee before walking to the waterfall for a look around there. A late lunch back at the cafe followed before catching the afternoon train back to Aberystwyth. We saw several red... More

The train leaves from the centre of Aberystwyth beside the mainline station. Mercifully it has its own free car park. It's a beautiful journey .One word of advice Book Ahead as our train was sold out. At Devils Bridge theres a nice hotel for refreshments. No toilets on board so go before you go.

Great couple of hours spent riding up and down the Vale of Rheidol. Breathtaking views not to be missed. Staff friendly but word of advice, don't sit too close to the engine otherwise you get covered n soot particles! You're better off sitting at least the second carriage back. At the top there is a cafe which does beautiful fresh... More

we went on a sunny day and the scenery was amazing- even saw a Red Kite. The cost was a bit steep at almost £40 for 2

Hi there, Thanks for your review. We operate a fleet of vintage carriages which were built for the railway in the 1920s and 30s. We are looking to improve the levels of comfort in the carriages -whilst retaining their heritage feel. The Waterfalls at Devil's Bridge are operated as a separate attraction. Glad you found our staff friendly and helpful!... More
