We were taken aback on entering - a large, almost empty space that should have contained a lot of historical artifacts. A brass canon captured during some time past campaign and lots of austere portraits of the city's great (and hopefully) good with not much else. I expected the Guildhall to display the town's mercantile history, albeit in shorten form.... More

We visited this as part of a guided tour, which meant we got to understand some of the history of the building. Of particular interest is the large room upstairs overlooking the pedestrianised road outside, and also the old court room on the ground floor. See if you can get a tour if one is being offered from the TIC... More

well worth a visit to see the internal and external architecture and art on display, especially when they have a craft fair or similar going on.

What a splendid building, the old towns Guildsman did themselves proud when they left this magnificent monument in there memory. If only 21st century entrepreneur's felt the same sense of social responsability. This is a warm and inviting building that is both practical and monumental. Admire the beutiful use of oak in the marvellous wide stair case, and the tall... More

The street outside is now pedestrianised, giving a better chance to appreciate the grandeur of the building. The public has access to the principal rooms, which is a welcome change.

We visited the cells here on a ghost walk. All very well presented. Take notice of the front facia of the building depicting Charles I & II

Definitely worth a visit and make sure you go to the top floor - the ceiling is beautiful. There's lots of interesting information all around the building.

We were there for a wedding in the evening. What a lovely venue. Beautifully decorated ceilings, chandeliers. We had also visited in the daytime when there was a craft fair. Well worth a visit to see the building and art work.
